Very true, but most of those guys weren't 1st round busts like Jenkins. His bust level was epic.

You do notice that we never ever take the same low risk payoffs on veterans.

I am not a guy that wants an old team, but sometimes, you know, every now and then you can pick up a once great vet and have it pay off.

At least Robinson wasn't a major bust when we signed him. He was just a run of the mill ho-hum types that ended up doing well his one year here.

He also got drafted where Jenkins should have. If Jenkins went in the third round instead of the first would it make him a better signing?

Yep. Too many folks get hung up on draft numbers. After the draft is gone, the order becomes meaningless. It's simply amatter of production. A player that makes the team is expected to produce no matter what the draft allocation was at one time. The order becomes more of a conversation.piece for second guessing a GM or Director of personnell but at that point it's a dead horse issue. They play or they don't.

The media's increasing obsession with favoring players based on their draft stock has coincided with their increased coverage of the draft.

Media NFL top 10 lists are filled with high draft choices even though they may not be special players, especially for OL. Most in the media don't know (or care to know) how to grade OL, so they lean on what they do know-- draft pedigree.

When high draft picks go "bust" there's a tendency to throw the baby out with the bathwater and start over rather than assessing a player's production fairly. A decent backup has value too, regardless of where he was drafted.

Not really. AJ has had 17 receptions in 3 years. Laurent had 24 in his rookie year before coming to Dallas.

Actually in his rookie year Robinson had 37 with the Falcons. He flamed out there and bounced to the Rams. He flamed out there and then bounced to Dallas. I wasn't trying to compare their professional careers in any way. I doubt seriously that Jenkins has a 800 yard season in Dallas unless we get destroyed by injuries. All I was saying was that on draft day Robinson was viewed as a third round talent. On draft day so was Jenkins. The problem is all it takes is one idiot team like the 49ers to take him way too early.

If Jenkins had actually gone in the third round people on here would be probably talking about him having some potential instead of talking about him as an epic draft bust.

I'd still think he was a bust. But overall not that big of a deal since he's a low risk signing. I just think he'll be a low reward one too.

Yeah he is a bust. And I don't think that will change in Dallas. Even if he actually makes the team and plays some offense he will be a bust. First round picks just have high expectations.

I just don't think it's a reason to hate on the signing. At this point I could care less if he was a first round pick or an undrafted free agent. If the guy has some talent I'm curious to see it.

Wouldn't it be similar for a high priced contract player, whether resigned or free agent? Who cares about sunk draft pick once selected -- who cares about sunk money once signed?

If you draft a bust, you lament about who you didn't and could've gotten. Same with a Brandon Carr or Miles Austin contract.
