17 receptions in 3 years. One of those no risk/no reward type signings.Keep collecting former first round busts, it has got to pay off eventually. And stuff.

Soon you'll see similar tales of Claibust slumming his way across the bottomVery true, but most of those guys weren't 1st round busts like Jenkins. His bust level was epic.
Probably be worth the price of admission to see those Claibust / AJbust camp duels.Soon you'll see similar tales of Claibust slumming his way across the bottom
of the leagues rosters.
I love that mentality, cracks me up.17 receptions in 3 years. One of those no risk/no reward type signings.
It could be that all Jenkins needs is a tutor like Dooley.I love that mentality, cracks me up.
You do notice that we never ever take the same low risk payoffs on veterans.
I am not a guy that wants an old team, but sometimes, you know, every now and then you can pick up a once great vet and have it pay off.
The risk is no less than doing it for some never was.
You can almost see it happening: Claiborne gets burned badly, yet a wide open Jenkins finds a way to lose track of the ball because he ran the wrong route.Probably be worth the price of admission to see those Claibust / AJbust camp duels.
Definitely be no winner. You can almost see it happening: Claiborne gets burned badly, yet a wide open Jenkins finds a way to lose track of the ball because he ran the wrong route.
I think Keef was the last time we tried it. That worked out pretty wellI love that mentality, cracks me up.

At least Robinson wasn't a major bust when we signed him. He was just a run of the mill ho-hum types that ended up doing well his one year here."but...Hitchens!!!"
I raise you with a "but...Laurent Robinson!!!"
He also got drafted where Jenkins should have. If Jenkins went in the third round instead of the first would it make him a better signing? At least Robinson wasn't a major bust when we signed him. He was just a run of the mill ho-hum types that ended up doing well his one year here.
Yep. Too many folks get hung up on draft numbers. After the draft is gone, the order becomes meaningless. It's simply amatter of production. A player that makes the team is expected to produce no matter what the draft allocation was at one time. The order becomes more of a conversation.piece for second guessing a GM or Director of personnell but at that point it's a dead horse issue. They play or they don't.He also got drafted where Jenkins should have. If Jenkins went in the third round instead of the first would it make him a better signing?
A lot of truth in there.Yep. Too many folks get hung up on draft numbers. After the draft is gone, the order becomes meaningless. It's simply amatter of production. Not really. AJ has had 17 receptions in 3 years. Laurent had 24 in his rookie year before coming to Dallas. He also got drafted where Jenkins should have. If Jenkins went in the third round instead of the first would it make him a better signing?
Actually in his rookie year Robinson had 37 with the Falcons. He flamed out there and bounced to the Rams. He flamed out there and then bounced to Dallas. I wasn't trying to compare their professional careers in any way. I doubt seriously that Jenkins has a 800 yard season in Dallas unless we get destroyed by injuries. All I was saying was that on draft day Robinson was viewed as a third round talent. On draft day so was Jenkins. The problem is all it takes is one idiot team like the 49ers to take him way too early. Not really. AJ has had 17 receptions in 3 years. Laurent had 24 in his rookie year before coming to Dallas.
I'd still think he was a bust. But overall not that big of a deal since he's a low risk signing. I just think he'll be a low reward one too.Actually in his rookie year Robinson had 37 with the Falcons. He flamed out there and bounced to the Rams. He flamed out there and then bounced to Dallas. If Jenkins had actually gone in the third round people on here would be probably talking about him having some potential instead of talking about him as an epic draft bust.
Uh.... isn't that why they're on the street???broaddus said:I have seen receivers on the street that have far worse talent than him.
Yeah he is a bust. And I don't think that will change in Dallas. Even if he actually makes the team and plays some offense he will be a bust. First round picks just have high expectations.I'd still think he was a bust. But overall not that big of a deal since he's a low risk signing. I just think he'll be a low reward one too.
Wouldn't it be similar for a high priced contract player, whether resigned or free agent? Who cares about sunk draft pick once selected -- who cares about sunk money once signed?A lot of truth in there.
The media's increasing obsession with favoring players based on their draft stock has coincided with their increased coverage of the draft.
Media NFL top 10 lists are filled with high draft choices even though they may not be special players, especially for OL. Most in the media don't know (or care to know) how to grade OL, so they lean on what they do know-- draft pedigree.
When high draft picks go "bust" there's a tendency to throw the baby out with the bathwater and start over rather than assessing a player's production fairly. A decent backup has value too, regardless of where he was drafted.
Difference is you're still paying Brandon Carr.Wouldn't it be similar for a high priced contract player, whether resigned or free agent? Who cares about sunk draft pick once selected -- who cares about sunk money once signed?
If you draft a bust, you lament about who you didn't and could've gotten. Same with a Brandon Carr or Miles Austin contract.
