From KC Joyner:

Using the ESPN Stats & Information database, I took a look at the PAT and FG percentages over the past 10 years.
PATs are made an average of 99.1 percent of the time.

25-yard FGs are made an average of 98.1 percent of the time. If the league moved PATs out to this distance (i.e. moved the snap point to the 7-yard line), it would cause a likely change of about one missed PAT every 62 games. That seems to be a good change level.

For the 33-yard FG, the conversion rate is 95.1 percent. Using the league average of PAT attempt volumes over the past 10 years (373 per year on average), this percentage means that there will be missed kick roughly once every week. That seems to be a change level that is far too great.

This is dumb. Does the NFL really think this will improve the game in some way? It's just change for the sake of changing things and it has a very gimmicky feel to it.

I'm actually okay with this. I think it will make the decision on what to do with your PAT much more interesting. And, I don't think it messes with the integrity of the game, so win win.

Good. I think the alternative may have been to move everything up to the 1 yard line. The eagles proposed it and I think those fuckers were up to something.

Stupid change. WGAS if they were virtually automatic? I don't want to see a game, let alone a playoff game or even the Super Bowl decided due to some botched XP because it's now from the 15. Just play the game and stop screwing around with it.

Yes and in a related story, Tim Tebow will be released tomorrow.

It makes the kicker a little more relevant. But frankly, the EXPs are so automatic, you might as well just not have them at all.

Was I in a rush to get it changed? No, I am a traditionalist, but I get why.

It will place a greater importance in kickers to be sure. Again, I'm good with it.

How many points can the defense score?

I'd rather they have increased the safety to 4 points.

I like it...now I wonder if a team gets a penalty on the kick if they will have the option to change their mind and go for 2.

Sure...but what if it is on the offense...goes back 5 or 10 yards depending on the penalty if they scrap the FG try and go for 2?

I suppose they could, but I don't see that being a decision made very often. Why would you go for 2 after you have been backed up to the 20-25 yard line?

If it is holding it becomes a 42 yard FG, so going for 2 from the 2 might be enticing.
