The Cowboys signed safety Danny McCray to a one-year deal. McCray was a core special teams player for the team for four seasons.

McCray played for Chicago last season, making 10 special teams tackles. He made 73 special teams tackles with Dallas, ranking sixth in team history.

The team announced several other moves Thursday, signing rookie free agent Donnie Baggs from Texas A&M as well as draft pick Geoff Swaim from Texas.

Baggs participated in Cowboys rookie minicamp as a weekend workout. Swaim was a seventh-round draft pick, becoming the third of eight draft choices to sign.

The Cowboys waived linebackers Keith Smith and Will Smith.

McCray played for Chicago last season, making 10 special teams tackles. In his four seasons with the Cowboys, he made 73 special teams tackles, ranking sixth in team history.

Let's see if he even makes the team. If he does he won't see the field outside of special teams unless the injury situation is dire.

Why? He was one of the better special teams tacklers and you lost something on ST in that respect when you lost Harris.

Why wouldn't you bring him in when you have the ability to take 90 to camp?

We had a better version of him last year in CJ Spillman...he should be the priority over McCray.

C.J. Spillman was accused of sexually assaulting a woman at the Cowboys' team hotel on Sept. 20.

That's probably why.

McCray twice lead the team in ST tackles in his time here.

Best Spillman managed was 3rd last year.

What makes him better?

He could actually play S when he was not playing STs. When McCray played S he had the ball skills of a retarded kid chasing a butterfly.

Spillman had 16 total tackles in 16 games on defense. Jeff Heath had 17 total tackles in 14 games. Neither guy had any passes defensed, FF, FR, etc...

I doubt there's anybody that would confuse Jeff Heath with a decent safety. Not sure I'd be saying Spillman could actually play S, either.

Spillman was brought here for special teams. Same as McCray.

Regardless...I'd rather have Spillman over McCray...if you prefer McCray, cool.

Is the sexual assault case against Spillman still pending? I wonder if that has anything to do with it. You can't be rapey if you are just a ST guy.

I think LP Ladouceur has a good case to be rapey if he wanted.

Never said I preferred McCray. Only that both guys are special teamers, and that Spillman wasn't a very good safety either.

I just remember McCray looking terrible when he played S for us. I'd rather have Spillman than McCray...he seemed to make plays.

McCray is unplayable at S. Horrid. Worse than Keef Davis. They can't put him out there at S.

I'm not sure he'll even make the team. If he does it will definitely be because they think he is good enough at ST to warrant it. Seems like they could find some minimum salary rookie for that role and maybe they will.

Declined to bring charges was the last I saw on it.

Jeff Heath is our top backup at safety. So yeah if he makes the roster I'm a little concerned that McCray could see the field at safety.

Statistics don't really tell even half the story of how these guys play at safety. Heath is an absolutely train wreck on the field at safety. I'm not sure I've seen worse safety play then when McCray sees the field. At least when Spillman played safety he wasn't destroyed on a regular basis. This isn't me saying we have to bring Spillman back but there sure as hell has to be a better option out there then McCray. Someone like D.J. Swearinger would have at least been nice.

If Danny McCray sees one minute of playing time at S they deserve what they get.
