Just trade for Lamar Miller or Gio Bernard, neither of them seem to be in great standing with their teams.

Why? We did all the time last year? I'm not sure why it's hard to believe that we will continue doing the same.
Because they knew Murray would eventually break free and humbling the other team by the 4th quarter. He led the league in 20+ yard plays.

Recall, Murray got nearly 80% of the team's 500+ rushing attempts. In this era that is ridiculous. They kept feeding Murray seemingly in spite of the other backs.

McFadden and Randle have to perform well to earn the same degree of trust.

I'm betting they don't do enough to preserve our beautiful ratio of 508 runs to 476 pass attempts.

They would both be nice additions who could give us an explosive element over 200-250 carries. They aren't a 350 carry type but I'd give up a mid rounder or some of our OL depth for a guy who probably has more natural talent than anybody on our roster.

Miller just went over 1000 yards last season with over 5 YPC. Yeah I'd be cool with him. Plus he isn't as small as you'd think and has 4.4 type speed. Imagine what he would have done behind our O-line? I'd say he could be a 1,200+ yard back for us.

The problem is he is in his 4th year. So it's probably a one year rental.

Maybe they kept feeding Murray because they knew they only were going to use him for one year and then dispose of him. Maybe they knew they wouldn't resign him for big money the next year and made the conscious decision to just run the wheels off the last year they had him.

No doubt about it. I don't care about the 'not a feature back' aspect. At all. Either could be a nice piece to the backfield & if they could be acquired for a 5th or later I'd do it in a second. Especially Bernard since he has a couple years left on his rookie contract & is an excellent pass catching RB.

I don't think they expected anything. They weren't sure about him and didn't expect him to stay healthy. He was determined to earn the Jerry Golden Ticket contract, the OL blocked a hell of a lot better than they thought and then once it was proven it worked, they rode the wave. It was the perfect storm.

IMO, that's what last season was in a nut shell. A perfect mix of the right things plus a lot of luck. Taking things for granted off a magical season like that is dangerous. Especially if you think the OL can just block for any old turd. Murray was running his ass off for his contract, I don't doubt that for a second. Contract years are funny things.

And, maybe they didn't trust him after he got his contract to stay on the field and keep running his ass off. He did show in earlier years that he either couldn't or wouldn't stay on the field, so maybe they didn't trust him to keep performing after he got paid.

They had NFL history as well as his own inconsistent past on their side.
