Chris Johnson wants to play for the Cowboys

MAY 04, 2015 11:48p ET

By Rachel Wold.

Former New York Jets running back Chris Johnson was caught out on the town with his former quarterback Vince Young.

The two were hanging out at Katsuya, a popular sushi restaurant in Hollywood.

Not wasting any time with small talk, a reporter from TMZ Sports asked Johnson if he could see himself playing with the Dallas Cowboys this season. Johnson enthusiastically answered with this:

"I’d fit good in Dallas. That’s what we’re trying to do."

He added:

"Dallas, come holler at me."

Here’s the whole conversation that occurred between Johnson, Young and the gossip rag.

While hinting at some behind-the-scenes deal, Young repeated Johnson’s stance:

"He’ll fit well. They’re gonna love CJ out there."

Johnson, who spent one season with the Jets after being let go by the Tennessee Titans, has drawn very little interest in the open market. Johnson’s name was last in the news due to the fatal drive-by shooting he was involved in earlier this year in Orlando that saw him suffer a gun-shot wound to his shoulder.

Prior to Johnson’s unsuccessful run with the Jets, he served six seasons as the main workhorse for the Titans where he never once posted less than 1,000 rushing yards in a single season. Johnson and Young spent 2008-2010 playing together with the Titans.

As for Johnson potentially heading to Dallas, that is not exactly a random thought. The Cowboys failed to draft a single running back this past weekend. That leaves the team with Darren McFadden, Ryan Williams and Joseph Randle competing for the starting gig. That’s also a less-than-ideal scenario for Jason Garrett and company after DeMarco Murray departed in free agency.
-----------------

I'd give him a shot. He is clearly beyond his prime, but that is still better than Joseph Randle.

It's less stupid than the Eagles signing Tebow. I'd pick him up to see if he has anything left. When your on 4 bald tires you ought to be eyeing spares.

Yep. I would definitely bring him in for a workout. What does it hurt?

His numbers with the Jets actually weren't bad last year. Considering what we've got now, I would be happy if we signed him.

didnt he just get arrested in january?

The risk is only worth athletes who have a high ceiling. Chris Johnson is nothing more than a rotational back for 8-10 carries/game, if that. No thanks.

I don't think arrested, just shot.

Is he healthy after being shot? I'd do it, he was decent last year. I'd give him 15 or so carries and Randle about 10.

If we're rolling committee style, is he any better than the rest of our cast
of spares?

:lol how desperate are we at RB (and DE and MLB and maybe OL)?

Our bar is now at "is he healthy after being shot?"

I wonder when it becomes a priority for Goof Son. When the season starts and after a game or two we realize we suck with these guys?
