Greg Hardy in the news again... Apparently some Panthers fan tweeted about drafting Funchess and putting him alongside Benjamin, saying nobody will be able to cover the 'Twin Towers'. Hardy tweeted, 'Didn't the Twin Towers get blown up? lol"

Stupid. I know it was an idiotic joke, but this guy needs to watch what he says and does. Twitter is more trouble then it's worth with these guys.

Apparently some reporter asked Jerry about it during the press conference. Both him and Red said they were aware of the tweet and would deal with it. Said they both looked pissed.

I know im late to the party, but the Randy Gregory pick in the 2nd round turned this draft from a C+ to an A- immediately. Thats a top 20 talent at #60. I'm more than happy to take that risk in the second round, especially with the horrible luck we have with the 2nd round picks in the past. He fills a huge void but will take a few weeks into the season to find his nitch. Not a day 1 starter, but is a huge upgrade in a position of need down the line. Give that man a few Whataburgers amirite Iamtdg?

The guy seems really fluid. Don't know if that's something you necessarily look for, but he strikes me as a natural athlete.
agreed. If we were going for a project, hes a good guy to take. There were other guys id prefer for sure, but once again our scouting dept, especially the OL is something that has made the smart decisions previously. I'll bank on that.

I guess his point is that the team brain trust thought that swing tackle was a bigger need than starting RB, but I don't buy that.
Correct. This has been clearly a need draft from the beginning. I don't like drafting for need, but we've kind of painted ourselves in a corner at RB. I think we can compete for a championship with a dominant RB in place. without it, I think we step back from where we were last year. Because when you have that bell cow, defenses have to respect that and defend you accordingly. It opens up so much for your passing game.

So I feel like We can't come away from this draft without a legit RB.

Jerry said before the draft we are focusing on defense but RB is not a must. That tells me two things. 1, this is a need draft (focus on defense), and 2, they don't value RB as a need as much as I do (unless they get Peterson, RB is a must).

Which brings us to the Green pick. If they were simply taking BPA i can stomach that, but i don't think Green was BPA. I think they targeted a defensive player that got taken ahead of them. So I think they took the next position on their list of needs. And I'm lamenting that either they seem to value swing tackle above RB, or they seem to overvalue what we have at RB.

If Green is a future starter, that's great. I'd prefer that over drafting a 1st rounder the year Free retires or whatever. But I think this pick was more need at swing tackle and less future starter. And since I see this as a need pick, I think they are misinterpreting our biggest need.

This was a very good RB class, and we have a big need at RB. I almost can't believe that so far we've found a way to not come away with one of the top RBs.

So wait we did or didn't draft for need. If RB is our biggest need and we were drafting for need, wouldn't we have taken a RB?:shrug
What I think is our biggest need and what they think is our biggest need are apparently two different needs.

To me, swing tackle is a need. RB is an absolute must.

Yep.

They keep thinking there is "depth" at RB.

Well, you do that you end up with the dregs at the bottom of the barrel.

Chaz Green was a complete waste of a pick.
Baby what I say. It just shaped up that way from the day McFadden was by brought on board. I hope there is still a miracle RB but it will be a stretch to hope too much.

Booze, This is true (regarding my time spent here and various posters track record) I don't even lurk that often. Nonetheless only certain playoff game while everyone else was shitting in their pants a certain poster was reminding everyone that we have been in the spot before and named them then called for calm. I was so concerned for you guys I was about to break out some Jesse helps quotes but ithen a voice of reason posted before I did. Just sayin'. I could link to it but I don't give a shit enough.

Very exciting pick to me bc of the explosion across the line. It's fun to watch and I can imagine how hard it would be to block Hardy on one side and this guy on the other giving some quarterback absolute fits on third down.

I'd think in nickel/dime situations, Hardy would be coming from the middle, alongside Crawford. With Gregory and Lawrence coming from the edge. Has the makings of a very formidable 4 man rush line.

I think Dallas is using a "short board" again that is prioritized. They wanted their swing tackle and took him, no doubt bypassing players at DT and RB. Green is not a bad player, but I have a hard time believing he was this high on the board. He was a guy they designated for the role and he'll probably be okay. I just don't see the value with him in the third round with that much talent on the board.

All they have to do is get Ajayi and this will be forgiven and I can go back to the homer mode I was in after Gregory before they killed my buzz.

I agree. Land Ajayi and this is a strong draft. But leave without a quality back and it's problematic .

Ajayi will not last to Dallas' pick in the 4th, knee rumors or no. I have a feeling they want Buck Allen in the 5th.

Why won't he? We also thought he wouldn't make it to our pick in the 2nd. Then, there was no WAY he'd make it to our pick in the 3rd. Hard to predict where he'll go when we haven't seen the medical reports that the teams have.

Frankly any published draft information is a couple of steps behind what NFL teams have access to, so yeah you are correct. It's evidenced by Ajayi being on Kiper's "Best Available" but consistently passed on by every team.

NFC EAST Draft Grades

Dallas Cowboys

Draft pick: CB Byron Jones (No. 27 overall), DE Randy Gregory (No. 60 overall), OL Chaz Green (No. 91 overall)
Day 1 grade: A-
Day 2 grade: A+
Overall grade: A
The skinny: The star of the NFL Scouting Combine jumped from under-the-radar prospect to first-round pick after testing well and showing scouts he could cover better than everyone thought. Jones fills a huge need on the Cowboys' defense, and his versatility will allow him to play a number of spots in the secondary. On Day 2, the Cowboys got a top-10 talent at pick No. 60 in Gregory -- obviously, a tremendous value at a big area of need. If the team can get a good support system in place, Gregory could be the steal of the draft a few years from now. Green fills a void along the line and can play multiple spots, but whether he can stay healthy is a question.

New York Giants

Draft picks: Ereck Flowers (No. 9 overall), S Landon Collins (No. 33 overall), DE Owa Odighizuwa (No. 74 overall)
Day 1 grade: C+
Day 2 grade: A+
Overall grade: B+
The skinny: Flowers has tremendous ability and upside, but the team might have reached a little bit with this one. He'll certainly fill a need on a team that badly needs to upgrade along the line, but Flowers will have to refine his technique sooner rather than later. At least Eli Manning will be happy the Giants upgraded their pass protection. The Giants gave up a fourth-round pick to the Titans to move up and grab Landon Collins in the second round, but he'll be a great fit for this team. He fills a huge need and can bang with the best of them in a physical division. Odighizuwa is a tremendous value in the third round, and if he's fully healthy, he could be a monster along the line for New York.

Philadelphia Eagles

Draft pick: WR Nelson Agholor (No. 20 overall), DB Eric Rowe (No. 47 overall), LB Jordan Hicks (No. 84 overall)
Day 1 grade: A-
Day 2 grade: B+
Overall grade: A-
The skinny: Poor Agholor will have the distinction of being "Not Marcus Mariota" in Philly, but that doesn't matter. He'll be a great fit for Chip Kelly's offensive system. His return game is not to be underestimated either, and he's a picture-perfect replacement for Jeremy Maclin. Don't be surprised if he has the most catches of any rookie wideout next season. Rowe brings great coverage skills, and as a bonus, he can play both safety and corner. Hicks could turn out to be a quality player if he can stay healthy.

Washington Redskins

Draft pick: OL Brandon Scherff (No. 5 overall), DE Preston Smith (No. 38 overall), RB Matt Jones (No. 95 overall)
Day 1 grade: C+
Day 2 grade: A-
Overall grade: B
The skinny: GM Scot McCloughan is one of the best evaluators in the league, but Scherff was a big reach, even if he lives up to his potential. Failing to trade down and passing on the best player in the draft (Leonard Williams) is going to be something the team might regret, even if Scherff becomes a top-flight tackle or guard. Smith is a big player who can really get up field and brings some versatility to the line as well. Jones could have a long career in the league; he does all of the little things nicely and will be a nice complement to Alfred Morris.

Feh.

I think the Eagles got way too much leeway with this grade. I get that Agholor was a late rising guy and pretty reliable. Rowe is a less athletic version of Byron Jones, same kind of "hybrid" guy. Hicks has an injury list as long as Sean Lee's but I think even when 100% healthy, he is no better than anyone they have on their roster.
