If I had to grade the Jones pick on its own I'd probably give it a B, but the fact that the Skins passed on Williams at 5 for some Iowa donk who probably ends up being nothing more than an above average OG makes last night a rousing success.

Except for Allen, that's a nice list.
Allen is pretty much my biggest fear for us in the second round. He'd probably be productive behind our O-line, so long term the pick would look ok but it doesn't really mean it was a good pick. He is way down on my list of RBs in this draft.

Barring a trade, I think Randy Gregory will end up with the skins tonight. Pairing him with Kerrigan would give them a nice set of rush LBers. Thank God they braincramped themselves out of taking Leonard Williams.

Has any player for the Cowboys named Jones ever panned out since Jerry has owned the team?

Would have preferred Malcolm Brown, but I like the Byron Jones pick. Extremely smart, extremely athletic player. For far too long our secondary has been filled with the complete opposite - unathletic, stupid players. I think Jones has all the tools to be a very good corner for a long time in the league.

Anyone think Jones has a chance to be a better FS than CB? Obviously he'll be a CB in 2015 because the need is there, but if they shore up the CB position over the next year or two could you see him being an effective true FS? He seems to have all the tools.

This article has some embeddded stuff that make it hard to copy and paster but it is pretty interesting:

The name of this blog is 3 Sigma Athlete, which refers to the rare NFL player who stands three standard deviations above the NFL standard pSPARQ at a given position...3 sigma athletes don’t show up very often [there are now five of them: Jones, Evan Mathis, J.J. Watt, Calvin Johnson, and Lane Johnson]. 3 standard deviations from the mean corresponds to the 99.87th percentile. It isn’t 1 in 1000, but it isn’t far off, either....Jones managed to land a whopping 3.2 standard deviations from the positional cornerback average.

I think it's very possible. He does a great job of undercutting routes and making plays on the pass when the play is in front of him from what I saw. My concern is when his back is to the ball and he is running with a receiver. May make for the perfect FS type. He isn't a hard hitter by any means but I don't think that's what you need in a FS. You do need a sure tackler and I think Jones is at least reliable at that.

The NFL Draft always seems to be a bigger event year after year, but according to the television ratings, this year's draft wasn't as popular as last year's.

The first round of the draft was televised Thursday night on ESPN with a lot fewer eyeballs watching. ESPN received a 5.1 rating this year, which is 25 percent less than last year's first-round coverage, according to Deadline.

Yeah that was a real head scratcher even if I read some Williams overrated rumblings leading up to the draft.

I don't know if I pass on Williams even if I knew the year Martin had last year let alone for Scherf who is a questionable T prospect.

I hate the new ESPN.com website. I'm trying to pull up an insider article but it won't let me and it's really pissing me off. So I double checked on my status as an insider and it say's I'm already subscribed. That website blows.

Happens to me constantly. I was hoping the re-design fixed it, but it is shitty as ever

If Randy Gregory is still there (which he shouldnt be) I do not see us passing on him.

Put me down as a hell yea for Gregory, Carl Davis, Tevin Coleman, Eli Harold, UCLA DE, McKinney, Kendricks, or Green-Beckham
The problem I have with Coleman is that he runs very upright and isn't know for breaking tackles or getting a lot of yards after contact.

I want a guy who can make his own yards from time to time and I don't know if he can.
