Long story short, the talent in the 1st round is pretty poor. Guys like Scherff, Cooper, White and especially Flowers who went 5-10 probably would’ve went somewhere around 15-25 last year. Basically, I don’t think we were ever going to really make hay in the 1st round, that’s why I wanted to trade down so badly, and if we had done that and taken Jones at 35-40, I’d have been pretty happy.

Anyway, the point is that I think the area where you really have to hit in this draft is the 2nd-4th, if we can do that, and come away with something like Ajayi/Frank Clarke/Marcus Hardison or Michael Bennett/TJ Yeldon/Jamison Crowder, I’ll be pretty pleased overall. If we do some completely dumb shit like taking Maxx Williams or another CB in the 3rd or some nonsense, then it will just exacerbate the fact that I’m ok with the Jones pick but not really thrilled.
There is no way Cooper and White would have been in the 15to 25 range they would have been top 10 prospects last year as well.

Our coaches clearly didn't like Moore. He would have cost pennies to keep and we decided he wasn't worth it. I'm not sure why they hated him so much but they clearly did. That's why it would have never impacted this pick.
I wonder how much scheming we had to do to cover for him and let's not forget he has not been in high demand the last couple of years or even this offseason.

Ajayi might still be there if people fall in love with Abdullah and Duke Johnson like Kiper has.

Perriman
Flowers
Johnson
Humphries
Dorsett.

I don't have time to do some research but those are 5 off the top of my head.
Take your time.

I was hoping it would take awhile.

OK, Jiggy. I was only joking around.

Yeah this wasn't a bad draft for talent at all. Hell a guy who is elite each and very year in Leonard Williams ended up going sixth in this draft. Needs just dictate a lot. The reason you saw O-lineman get reached for a bit is because teams are in desperate need of talented O-lineman. Didn't matter that there weren't any elite LT prospects in this draft.

This is one of the best WR/RB classes I can remember seeing in a crazy long time.

Iamtdg does NOT appreciate posts like this.

Prepare to be admonished.
Its more that his TV won't appreciate those picks after the remote goes through it

Love the player but it all depends on the knee. If he needs microfracture surgery in the next few years I'm out. I know some on this board want to pretend like the knee concerns are a hoax but if there is legitimacy to it expect the guy to fall hard.

I feel the same way about Jones that I felt about a Travis Frederick pick. That turned out ok.

Both Watkins and Evans would've still gone before them and they would've been in the conversation with Beckham, one of them probably would've went between 10-15 while the other around 16-18. A guy like Scherff probably would've went around the same time as Martin and Flowers definitely would've been a guy who went around 25, unless the Dolphins decided to go with him instead of that massive reach in James due to their insistence on drafting a RT.

Well I hope you're right. Not sure I really see any similarities in the situation other then they are both late first round picks.

Yeah. I'm ok with this pending what we do in the middle rounds.

I agree with what others are saying about Moore though. That still makes no sense to me. Even less now.

I think you're using a little hindsight on this one. Especially with the Beckham part. Beckham wasn't viewed as that big of a stud before the draft. Hell Evans may have had trouble going before Cooper and White. I agree about Watkins though. He was viewed as an all around stud at all times. Similar to Cooper but with a slightly higher rating.

They are both somewhat underwhelming picks at a position of need that should, worst case, be long time contributors. Obviously Frederick ended up being more than that, and hopefully Jones does too. It isn't really what I wanted, but I don't think it was a bad pick.

I have a hard time seeing a way we don't nail the second round pick unless we just take the wrong RB or D-lineman/LBer. Like if we were to take Buck Allen, Tyeler Davison, or Gabe Martin in the second round I'd probably be pissed. I just don't see any way that Dallas doesn't take one of those positions and if they do stray from those positions I expect a steal like DGB, Devon Smith or La'el Collins.
