Impeccably shitty timing. A little late to be looking to the future, Romo is
a few hits away from permanent disability. And the cupboard is bare of talent.
Every QB in the NFL falls in this category.

My comment is about the lack of strategy on the part of team leadership, not so
much about any particular QB. However, Romo is decidedly less healthy than a good
number of other QBs. And the latest back surgery was last offseason. What actions
have we taken to mitigate his precarious health or look forward to life beyond a now 35
year old injured QB?

You can either look for a replacement or update your backup. Romo is in the second year of his contract so the temprement from management is that he will play for another 3 or so years. Apparently they aren't looking for his replacement yet. Even if they were, this isn't a good crop to execute that process. That leaves improving the backup. Maybe they have some options to play with for this circumstance but in my view it will either be a lower round draft pick or a FA or neither. Either way a program for a starter replacement just won't happen now. If Romo gets hurt to the extent he can no longer play then the circumstances will dictate a different scenario but as things stand now any change out QB activity this year will be low key to nil. That's just the way the deck is stacked currently.

I think they are hopefully he can play another 3 years but also are realistic that a wrong hit could end Romo's career. With that in mind I think that's why they are looking at young QBs in this draft that wouldn't require too big of an investment.

But is there anyone in the mix that you think can become Romo's replacement? I think they might go with a project as a flyer but i dont expect them to make a move for anyone to replace him this year.

I don't like this draft class at all for QBs. I think the best hope of the group might be developing Bryce Petty for a couple of years. He at least has the physical tools and seems to have the right attitude. Not saying he will be the next Romo but no one thought Romo was going to be what he turned out to be when we signed him. If you don't draft anyone you have zero chances of finding a young QB.

With that being said I don't want Petty until like the fourth round. I think he will go higher then that.

Wouldn't disagree with that. Petty has some tools and potential but he needs development work.

Yeah the nice thing is Dallas can really provide him the opportunity to sit a couple of years and learn how to run an NFL style offense. I'm not sure he will even last to our pick in the third round though. Not unless some other QBs jump him.

As sad and sick as it sounds, this crap has me talking myself into Petty. Jeez, let the draft get here already.
