Kevin Johnson's highlight tapes on youtube are about as exciting as Boozeman's nursing home bingo games

At a position that comprises 1/11th of the starters, we will have used 4 first rounders on the position since 2003. That's 4/12.

Twice as often as average for a position that should get half as many first rounders.

I'm only counting 3, unless I'm missing one. But even so, wouldn't that be 2/11ths? There are two cornerback positions on the defense. Or if we're honest with ourselves, 3/11ths since the slot corner plays pretty much every snap.

It's weird how actual real live NFL guys place such importance on the CB position. And strangely enough, ones that don't even work for the Cowboys. In fact, a guy you have advocated hiring here absolutely LOVES him some cornerbacks. Somebody should forward those guys a link to this board so they could figure that shit out.

You have 22 starters. I'm guessing maybe he is assuming we use a first on a corner this year and that's where he is getting 4?

It's fair to say he is manipulating the numbers a little to back up his argument.

Yeah, just a little bit. He's only considering the 11 starters on defense. And even then, not including that there are more than one starting corners on defense. But since we actually are allowed to use first rounders on the other side of the ball (which we have quite often) it lessens the shock value of his attempt if they're included. All in all, a pretty sad attempt.

Better said, we've busted on two of the last two first round CBs. Also since 2008, when we drafted Jenkins, we haven't drafted any defensive position but CB in the first round. That's pretty fucking ridiculous.

Not only that but only a late draft pick or UDFA should be the targets. I mean Lance Frazier worked out so well.

It's funny to me that a high draft CB sticks as the default pick. To me, moving up for Dez Bryant was the ultimate 'Jerry' pick. If we had drafted Manziel, that would have screamed "Jerry Jones pick" I feel like flashy picks are a more typical Jerry move than one specific position. By the numbers I feel like we've devoted the most high draft picks to DE and OLB.

Byron Jones scares me a bit, even though he is incredibly athletic.
Same here.

I didn't pay too much attention to mock draft prior to the combines and workouts but it seems like he's gotten an incredible bump in value just because he's an athletic freak.

Call me crazy but I actually value a player's actual playing ability and understanding of the game more than 40 times and broad jumps.

I watched a few of his highlight videos on YouTube and nothing really stood out to me. I didn't see any "Wow" plays.

He looks to be a solid tackler but I don't see him being a prospect worthy of a 1st round pick.

No DEs early and only 2 DTs listed at all. What pass rush?

We need one for sure, and I'd be fine with a CB in the first if it wasn't us doing the drafting.

Exactly. We know OL, but can't figure DB for shit.

Columbo (sp?) was his lone hit, and he was a reclamation project and not drafted.

It's much easier to look good at drafting a particular position when you are using nothing but first round picks on it.

Unless you are talking about Newman... or Claiborne.

Wait, maybe my point sucks.

Yeah, we love taking corners high in the draft.

:panic
Recently, not as much. But most of us have been around long enough to remember:

2000: Our first pick, 2nd round: Dwayne Goodrich CB
2002: 1. Roy Williams, SS
2003: 1. Terence Newman CB
2008: 1. Mike Jenkins CB
2012:. 1. Claibust

3 of 4 years a DB was our top pick and then throw in our recent bust and it leaves a bad taste in most fans' mouths even though we have drafted many DB's in the 1st recently. Throw in most believing the strength should start up front and it makes us leery of using top picks in the secondary.

With it being a need, I don't mind as long as the DB is the best player available, but if we have an equally rated DT or RB I go there over a CB.
