I also don't like that it's a one year deal. But at the money he is getting I'm glad it's not long term, if that makes sense.

Overall very happy they got a deal done.
I am not pleased that it was a one year, but it is important to note that Rosenhaus got the same thing out of Seattle for Michael Bennett. That might be his thing now, getting prove it deals and cashing in.

Hardy is a better player, so got a more incentive laden deal.

Going on his past performance on the field, it would have been cool to get him for more than one year. But since it is only 1 year, we are almost guaranteed to get the best performance of his career, past or future. And that, could be pretty badass.

Plus if he wigs out we aren't stuck with a 12+ mil signing bonus.

Yeah, I will take him having an incentive to kick ass for this upcoming season over not.

You want to avoid the contract headache thing, but I think we have more financial freedom next offseason anyways.[/homer]

Doesn't this mean we'll have dead money against the cap next year basically? Not sure that's a good idea.

NFL files suit for Hardy evidence

Posted by Mike Florio on March 18, 2015, 5:44 PM EDT

The NFL previously asked nicely to get access to the court file in the now-dismissed Greg Hardy criminal case. The NFL has now asked not quite as nicely.

According to WBTV.com, the NFL has sued the North Carolina Attorney General and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney in an effort to get the file.

The lawsuit contends that the NFL is legally entitled to see the exhibits introduced into evidence in the bench trial last July that resulted in a finding that Hardy had committed domestic violence against his former girlfriend. After the criminal case was dismissed in February, the NFL filed a request with the court to obtain the exhibits. The lawsuit claims the materials were returned to the district attorney, who allegedly has refused to surrender the materials to the NFL.

Whatever the outcome, the move highlights that the NFL still has more work to do before determining whether Hardy will be suspended for violating the personal conduct policy.

BTW, if the NFL slaps Hardy with a substantial suspension, Goodell is a fag who only cares about political reputation than the facts.

Hardy's ex-psycho girlfriend has zero credibility. Her name is pretty much synonymous with "ho" in Charlotte and the fact he paid her off is inconsequential. It was pretty much what she was angling for. The charge itself was more of the local DA looking to make a name for himself by going after an NFL player.

Why would we have dead money because of a 1 year deal?

According to Spotrac we have around $114 milion committed to next year with no restructures or releases. If we get rid of someone like Carr or Lee that will obviously give us more flexibility to structure deals for guys like Dez and Hardy in terms of cap hits in 2017, 2018, etc., even if it results in dead money next year. And several of these guys that we signed this year (Gachkar, Brinkley, McFadden) are listed in that 114 number with cap hits around 2-3 million, but we could get rid of them with minimal damage because the guaranteed money they got was so low. Basically, we can open up several million more very easily without restructuring or losing anybody important.

Anyway, assuming the cap is around $145 million, that should give us plenty of room to sign Dez, Hardy and Crawford if we wanted to. Even if we gave both Dez and Hardy deals that average 15 a year with 35 guaranteed, we could easily structure it to where the first years of those deals would only have cap hits around 5-10 million. We'd be pushing those cap hits into the future, yes, but by that time Romo will be damn near 40 and surely off the books.

Long story short, if Hardy has a huge year and we make a run, I'm not really worried about our ability to keep him, Dez or Crawford.

So, uh what's a Kraken?

And what the eff is with the pic of Hatcher on the back wall? Is Marinelli still holding a candle for that guy?

It's possible we'd get a 3rd round pick back for a one year monster rental? Takes the sting out of the one year deal... Not a bad strategy considering Romo's window is quickly closing. Do what you can while it's still open.
Interesting.
