Depends on the offer obviously. If he takes a similar offer with the Bucs then I'd have to question it. But otherwise money will win out if that's all he wants.
That is pretty much what I was talking about though. If the Bucs can outbid Dallas, we weren't trying.

A twenty something pass rusher in his prime is not commonplace. Jerry and Co. have manufactured cap space before. This is one of the times it is definitely worth it.

While they deserve praise for showing restraint with Murray, this would just be a case of being cheap and stubborn.

I get it that they all slapped hands and are all buddies, but they need to give it a rest.
Yea, I can see being a bit emotional the day of or the day after, but we're going on a week now.

Let it go.

As long as it's within reason I'm all in. But we can't afford to go crazy if Tampa goes wild with an offer. I like Hardy but it's not like he's the 2nd coming of Reggie White.

Dipshit, Hardy wasn't wanted by Carolina and he didn't go running right to their top rival and then pretend it wasn't about the money.

In a sad sick way, it would be cool to see the "we can do whatever we want in free agency" crowd (led by Fisher) try to explain "the plan" if we fail.

He may not be Reggie White. But to get a chance as a pass rusher, this good, this late and relatively uncontested in free agency, you don't let a second rate franchise like Tampa Bay outbid you.

They can get the money if they want. They just have to want.

I am over the cap thing. Fuck it. It is Jerry's money anyways. It is not like we are throwing a 100 million at Brandon Carr. This is one of the better defenders currently in the league.

Not to mention this is the biggest ACTUAL playmaking defensive free agent signing in Dallas since.... uhhh-- Deion Sanders maybe?

Glover? But point well taken.

As long as Brent doesn't take him out to sample the Dallas nightlife, signs look good.

True. Hardy is a good player at a position of pretty desperate need for us.

But he's kind of a Brandon Carr level signing. Good young player, but not elite.

Glover had like 17 sacks as a DT before signing here. He was pretty elite when we got him.

What is elite?

In 2013 he had 15 sacks, good for 3rd in the league, and was 2nd team All-Pro, with 11 sacks the year before. Brandon Carr never even made a Pro Bowl, let alone an All-Pro team so the two are nothing alike. When we signed Carr he was probably somewhere in the top 10-20 area of CB's in the league, in 2012 and 2013 Hardy was legitimately a top 5 DE in the league when you consider his size and sack production.

Robert Quinn had 29.5 sacks in 2012 and 2013, Mario Williams 23.5, Hardy had 26, that's elite.

Now, you could argue that there is uncertainty/risk since he only played one game last year (1 sack/FF in that game by the way), but he was a bona fide elite DE in 2012 and 2013, no question about it.

I think you're selling him a little short. Carr was a good player worth taking a gamble on. Hardy looked borderline elite in 2013.

Yea, I mean I'd call 3rd in the league in sacks and 2nd team All-Pro elite but that's just me.

I don't know if you're trying to set up a reason why we still desperately need a DE but 15 sacks in 2013 is the definition of elite. Unlike Ware he actually plays mean and angry too!
