I'd like to find out whether it also accumulated the most sacks. It's a high risk, high reward formation it also ended up forcing Romo to take a lot of hard hits in Detroit and GB. Which would have contributed to less successful plays in every formation.
Maybe so. I have no data on it, It was one of the talking points for the media toward the end of the season and playoffs.

I'm just saying, the more I think about it the more I think the offense will be ok. The fact that we ran a bunch of scrubs out on defense last year and have somehow managed to get worse this offseason is what scares me.

According to ESPN the empty backfield was the most successful formation of the team.
True, and Sturm says the same thing.

Whether people like it or not, we were pretty successful out of that formation and it wasn't even remotely the reason we lost in the playoffs.

Using that formation as justification for going RB by committee is seriously misguided. They didn't use the formation because Murray needed a breather and there were no RBs to replace him, they used it because they like the formation and it worked pretty often.

Has anyone in the organization used the 'we're getting Sean Lee back so that's just like adding high end FA' argument yet?

Absolutely horrid FA offseason so far. We had to upgrade the DL and didn't do shit.

The guy who passed just as much in Detroit as Garrett did?

Due to personnel.
That is worrisome. Linehan rode Steven Jackson for 350 carries in 2006 and the Rams offense waffled after Jackson regressed the following season.

We kinda had a magic year. I frankly doubt we will be as good next year even with the infallible Scott Linehan. Too many personnel losses at this point and not enough upgrades on defense to cover what was surely some smoke and mirrors that is going to eventually stop working on defense.

But this kind of offseason is necessary when you've spent like drunken sailors in the past. We don't have any money. Every other team has more money available than us. Not sure what is to be done about that fact except stop spending ... Which is what we're doing. If we can have another strong draft that is what will make this a successful or unsuccessful offseason, really. The rest is window dressing.

Linehan proved that he was willing to run when the running game wasn't super effective late in the year, but all of those carries went to Murray. He's never used a committee before.

IMO, the offense could be effective with 500 rushing attempts split among 3 backs, at least in terms of grinding the clock, setting up play action, and physically punishing the opposing defense. I just don't know if Linehan is ready to go into pure Parcells mode and coordinate an offense like that.

There's still too much finesse and too much empty backfield nonsense in Linehan's offense. We telegraphed the run-pass read too much last year and it hurt us against defenses we couldn't just impose our will on.

There is no kinda about it. Just look back game to game, it was a little bit of luck early, then confidence set in.

Right now, what made this team good, the running attack, is not sound. Sorry, don't buy the anybody can do it thing. Murray did have something to do with that.

And our defense is even shittier now and will need at least three starters out of the draft, which is next to a miracle.

I hang my hat on that I think Romo is better than he has ever been. A good QB covers a multitude of warts.

Romo was better because he wasn't allowed to KILL KILL KILL out of runs and he was about as under control as he ever has been since Parcells.
