Pittsburgh Steelers (gator)
1(22) Jalen Collins - CB - LSU
2(56) Preston Smith - DE - Mississippi State
3(87) TJ Yeldon - RB - Alabama
4(118) Davis Tull - LB - Chattanooga

Overall I kind of let the draft come to me and stuck to the board.

-Corner is a problem for Pittsburgh and Collins is about universally a first round prospect.

-I don't know if Preston Smith would play the elephant or 3-4 DE, but I think he's athletic enough to do well at either spot given clear weight room and size objectives.

-Given Leveon Bell's upcoming suspension, off-field question marks, and lack of depth behind him, I was open to grabbing a back in this draft as an insurance policy. I think Yeldon can contribute right away as a starter but should spell well should he be drafted by a team with an elite player in front of him. Keep Bell healthy by managing his workload.

-Davis Tull... impressive workouts this offseason. Great production in college. Some would call this a reach, but only because he's relatively unknown from a small program.

New Orleans Saints Draft

1 (13) Vic Beasley - OLB - Clemson
2 (44) Denzel Perryman - MLB - Miami
3 (75) Jay Ajayi - RB - Boise St
4 (109) Josue Matias - OG/T - Florida St

1st round worked perfectly for both need and BPA. Beasley should be a top 10 selection this year and immediately solidifies the sack deficit the Saints faced last year. This allows Junior Galette to see less double teams and Beasley is both a great pass rushing OLB as well as a good coverage LB.

2nd Round going with Denzel Perryman to help boost the middle of the D. Curtis Lofton had a great season, but opposite him there is nothing. Perryman is a thumper who will help the Run Defense as well as be a solid blitzer from the middle. He's projected either the 1st or 2nd LB off the board and I think he could fit well in a Rob Ryan defense.

3rd Round I drafted IMO the steal of the draft, Jay Ajayi from Boise St. I have his guy rated as the third best RB in the class and considered him in the 2nd round, but didnt want to pass up on a great defensive player. Saints just cut Pierre Thomas, Mark Ingram is hitting free agency, and Khiry Robinson should be a change of pace back at best. Ajayi is a better version of Mark Ingram in which he gets yards after contact and has great lateral movement. He's going to be a starting RB in the NFL, and the Saints would be a perfect fit.

4th Round some may say Josue Matias is a reach at 109, but he's a project pick worth taking in the fourth round. Matias can play both guard or tackle, hes god a large frame and he looks the part of an NFL Offensive Lineman. He started 3 years on a College Championship team, so you know he had to beat out a lot of competition. Matias at one point can grow into a starting role once Jahri Evans plays out his contract or retires.

New York under Coughlin has unsurprisingly enjoyed their greatest success when they enjoyed a dominating Oline and a tenacious pass rush. As those 2 groups have fallen off so has their record. I didn't come into the draft expecting to solely focus on that, but the draft fell in such a way that I felt they would get the best benefit this way. 2 positions that I was looking to address that I couldn't were LB and Safety, but I just didn't see the value. I am a huge believer that you build from the inside out. If your lines aren't sorted out then you are going to have a hard time so in their state I was perfectly happy to concentrate on the lines.

9. Shane Ray - DE - Missouri
NY has a history of great pass rushers and Shane Ray is the next one. Explosive off the ball, changes direction great, and he has a variety of moves already. Not to mention he has a nasty attitude. The only real knock on him is in the run game. But I can overlook an average run defense when I am getting a pass rusher with this upside.

40. AJ Cann - OG - South Carolina
Some people call him the best guard in the draft depending on whether or not Sherff is considered a OT or not. AJ was a 4 year starter in the SEC and is ready to come in and start week 1 allowing NY to keep Weston Richburg at Center. He's not a guy that has 1 or 2 great skills, more just a well rounded player without any real weaknesses. He might not be a perennial Pro Bowler but odds are he is going to be a NFL starter for a long time.

74. Trey Flowers - DE - Arkansas
This could be viewed as a bit of a homer pick by the Arkansas grad, but Flowers is good value here. I was actually hoping to get Jake Fisher (OT) here but Simp swooped in and grabbed him a few picks before me. Much like Cann, Flowers is another guy that does a lot of things really well, and a long time SEC starter. He got production in the passing game in college, but I don't see him as a pass rush specialist in the NFL. He could make a great bookend across from Ray for a long time. If nothing else, his ability to line up anywhere on the Dline and contribute makes him a great get here.

105. Gabe Wright - DT - Auburn
Another 4 year SEC guy. Are you detecting a theme here? In all honesty I was completely ready to go Derron Smith (S) here before Townsend took him one pick ahead of me. I'm not a complete SEC homer. Wright actually has a similar burst off the line as Ray from the middle of the line. He's a penetrating defensive tackle that should help out in fixing that crumbling NY pass rush. If NY can teach him to utilize that great burst without being overly aggressive they could completely turn their Dline around in this draft.

1(2) Leonard Williams - DL - USC
Not hard to justify the best player in the draft. I don't think anyone is going to be as good as JJ Watt anytime soon but he could be the next best thing, just the piece Horton and Lebeau need to upgrade that defense.

2(33) Marcus Peters - CB - Washington
Has some character concerns that I might have backed away from had I been making the pick live, but the guy has legit first round talent and through the combine he was at least acting like getting booted from Washington was a wake up call and as far as I've been able to tell, he hasn't been trying to put any blame for his actions on the Wazzu staff or anyone else but himself. So, either he's grown up a little or he's listening to a grown up long enough to know what to say instead of showing his ass on twitter, so, not the worst risk, hoping for a Dez Bryant rather than Antonio Bryant type of outcome.

3(66) David Cobb - RB - Minnesota
He's been a pet cat for a while, he's the kind of tough shifty back that gets consistent yardage. The Titans have invested a lot in the OL and they are going to try to make a QB out of a big armed Georgia redneck who was dumb enough to manage to get kicked out of UGA for groping a chick in a bar. If that's going to work out they need a good running game to set up play action. Which brings me to my next pick.

4(97) Rob Havenstein - OT - Wisconsin
Really wanted to address OT for the Titans, Lewan will probably be OK replacing Roos, but Oher was a massive disappointment. Havenstein was the best left and on film he was an absolute beast blocking for Gordon. Every guy he put his hands on got buried. If the Titans used a zone scheme like Dallas I might have gone for a more finesse guy earlier, but they run a more old school man-blocking scheme so this guy seemed to be the perfect fit.

Really wished I could have addressed WR, and if I had been picking live I might have jumped lower on my board and picked Sammie Coates in round 2. No regrets though. My team has 40 million in cap room and I can always throw some of that at Randall Cobb.

Would have liked an edge rusher too, but the early run on them in the first kept killing the value.

Chicago Bears (tnt)
1(7) Danny Shelton - NT - Washington
With the Bears transitioning to a 3-4, everything funnels through the NT. Between his size (6-2 / 339 LBS), strength ( 34 reps at 225) and skill, Bears cornerstone on defense is set.
2(39) P.J. Williams - CB - Florida State
Bears can use help up and down the defense. P.J. is a physically gifted corner that also will be the second coming of Devin Hester on special teams. He will be the type of corner that we will line up against #1 wide receivers and forget about him.
3(71) Tre' Jackson - OG - Florida State
Championships are born through the lines, so we invested on the other side. Jackson has as much upside as any other guard in this draft. I was surprised he was still on the board when my pick was called.
4(103) Za'Darius Smith - DE - Kentucky
As a basketball turned football player, Smith has come a long way. He has the athleticism and toughness to acclimate to the the speed of the NFL and fight for a starting position from day 1.

Not addressing their new need at WR was a huge mistake. :unsure

Trading marshall was a win through subtraction. Alshon Jeffery is our #1 through and through. We have a youngin waiting in the wings to take over #2 Marquess Wilson. With our coward QB, does this even really matter?
