It's laughable that the Herschel Walker trade is even a consideration here...26 years ago...yeah, I am sure that is eating away at the current Vikings ownership and staff.
To be fair, I honestly don't think it's that far-fetched.

It's been rehashed time and time again, and even recently there was a 30 for 30 about it. I'm sure the entire city of Minnesota is tired of the entire ordeal and can you imagine the fan outrage if Peterson came here via trade, and one where Dallas didn't pay much?

I don't know if they are losing sleep at night thinking about not trading him to Dallas, but I do think it is something in the back of the organization's mind.

No one in the organization was any part of that trade.

It would be like us holding a grudge against Seattle for the Galloway trade.

Nowhere near the same.

The Galloway trade was a bad trade that set us back. Nobody gives a shit about this trade or even mentions it unless someone wants to write an article about the poor trades in Jerry Jones' tenure as GM.

The Herschel Walker trade was a train robbery that built a dynasty and became THE most talked about and influential trade in NFL history - one that constantly points out how badly the Vikings were fleeced and how great the Cowboys became at the expense of the Vikings.

They are totally different situations.

So while this front office has no ties to that trade, they are still part of the same organization and they still have to acknowledge and honor the history.

Take a look at the Texans. It's a completely different team from the Oilers and this ownership has zero ties to the Oilers, but they feel a duty to keep the whole "we hate Dallas" thing intact. The ownership, front office and even players have all done their part to appease the fanbase by keeping that "rivalry" that the Oilers and their fans started with the Cowboys alive.

I'd guess that the Vikings current staff is also very aware of what that trade meant to the franchise and it's fans and would do what it could to avoid anything like that from happening again.

We aren't going to trade for Peterson unless he agrees to a completely new deal, and even then I doubt we give up much more than a 4th or 5th. I could see the Vikings trading him somewhere else for next to nothing out of spite knowing that he wants to go to Dallas and would have a great chance at success/winning a Super Bowl behind our OL.

I could also see Peterson refusing to play anywhere but Dallas.

A trade will never happen like that again. Teams value draft picks more than ever...and don't value RBs nearly the same way either. Kind of more what Simp is saying...they might try to move him to another team to spite him, not the Cowboys. It's more dramatic though when we point to a 26 year old trade.
