Sean Lee (knee) ahead of schedule; Morris Claiborne (knee) won’t be ready before training camp

INDIANAPOLIS – Sean Lee’s rehab from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee is ahead of schedule, Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones said Wednesday. The 28-year-old middle linebacker is expected to be a full participant in April’s off-season program.

Morris Claiborne’s timetable is a little more uncertain. The 25-year-old cornerback suffered a ruptured patellar tendon in his left knee in late September.

“We are hopeful about [Claiborne returning for] training camp,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. “He might be one of those guys who doesn’t start right away in training camp. But that’s a long way off. That’s premature. But I wouldn’t anticipate him being too involved in the spring.”

After Lee suffered his injury during organized team activities, the Cowboys traded for middle linebacker Rolando McClain. The former first-round pick made a significant impact when healthy, finishing second on the team in tackles. Jones said the Cowboys are “very interested” in re-signing McClain.

His return would likely force Lee to move to an outside linebacker position.

“Sean can play any of the spots,” Garrett said. “We will try to figure out who is on the roster, talking about some of these free-agent decisions. Hopefully we can get our guys back and we’ll decide where those guys go to help our football team.

“But Sean has great versatility. He can play the [middle]. He can play the [weakside]. He can play [strongside] if we asked him to.”

Claiborne is shaping up to be one of the worst first rounders in team history.

Claiborne on IR for 2015?

Super Bowl, baby!!! :towel
He hasn't participated enough to make a difference one way or another. If he doesn't play a down in the upcoming season, who will notice.

I will. Because I won't see him getting smoked every other play on Sundays.

Also opposing qbs won't have an automatic "there's my bitch" if he's out.

Yep. I'm not sure we win 12 games if he doesn't get hurt.

I agree, you know they would have kept marching him out there no matter how many times he got burnt.

I hope Lee hurries up and gets healthy so we can start his rehab for his pending injury.

Such a contrast in players. Sean Lee will work his ass off and get on the field as soon as possible and then probably get hurt again. I feel for a guy like that because he will do everything right. It's just his body won't allow him to do more.

Claiborne on the other hand will milk this injury as long as possible and then pout like no other if he isn't immediately bumped right back into a starting role. I just don't think he has the work ethic or give a shit to make it on the Cowboys. A change of scenery in my opinion is his only hope of savaging his career.

He was tuned in at LSU but has been mostly overwhelmed and out of his depth as a pro. Too bad, because he has played well at times in spite of it.

Now he's so far behind the 8-ball it's probably in his head to fail.

LSU players seem to be like that more often than not.

If we can unload him for a conditional 7th, just to get someone to take his salary off our hands, I would dance in the streets.

Cowboys owner says Claiborne’s ‘circumstances are problematic’ as team looks to address CB situation

INDIANAPOLIS — The Cowboys have had talks with cornerback Brandon Carr’s agent since they have been in Indianapolis.

Owner Jerry Jones wouldn’t divulge what was discussed, cryptically saying, “We’ll see where it goes.”

But a pay cut for Carr has been hinted at as a possibility. He is scheduled to count $12.7 million against the salary cap in 2015 after producing no interceptions last season.

Complicating the Cowboys’ dicey cornerback situation is the status of Morris Claiborne, who ruptured the patellar tendon in his left knee last September. Earlier this week the Cowboys said they were only “hopeful” he would be ready for training camp.

“Mo has created a problematic situation for us,” Jones said. “Mo didn’t create it, but his circumstances are problematic for us as we approach what we’re doing in the off-season at that position.”
