I can definitely see what you are saying. Listen, I'm no huge fan of Brian Williams. I think he's a colossal douche. Maybe I'm more bothered by why some other journalist would go out of their way just to track down a stupid lie.
I'll admit, I'm biased towards the subject he lied about.

So basically.. Fuck him.

I think you might be confused about what journalism is. You are mad at the guy who tracked down the truth that a liar told but the guy that lied should keep his job?

How is that a bad thing? Cull the herd.
I'm not necessarily saying it shouldn't happen, but if it is going to happen then let's be consistent and fire all the journalists that lie.

Except, that is not what happened.

What happened was, the veterans who WERE on the chopper that got shot down, tried to tell NBC Brian was lying. And had for years. They never listened, and the vets couldn't get anyone else to listen either - until the blogger you mentioned earlier, broke the story and social media took off with it, forcing Lyin' Brian's subsequent acknowledgement of his lie, and apology to the vets.

THEN the WaPo and others investigated, and found the other dozen or so outright LIES this guy has told over the years. Such as, seeing a body floating down Bourbon Street from his hotel window during Katrina, and etc. Bourbon Street never flooded to anywhere near that degree, he just made it up out of shit he pulled out of his ass.

Finally someone listened to the Iraq chopper vets.

I can't blame you at all. I would be pissed, too. And, let me be very clear. I am not in any way defending this asshole. I'm just saying either he shouldn't lose his job, or they need to dig in on every journalist and fire every one of them that have lied.

As soon as they ADMIT it like Lyin' Brian did, sure. It was his ADMISSION that made it a story.

I'm not mad. I'm more curious why he spent all of his time to crucify Williams.

As I just explained, that never happened.
I'm not going to argue with you about the semantics of how the story came forward... the bigger point is way more important. If the idea is to clean up the profession, then there's a shit ton of work to be done.

I agree that he's a sorry piece of shit, but I'm just not sure he should lose his job because of that. If sorry pieces of shit lost their journalist jobs simply for being pieces of shit, the industry would lose a lot of people.
This is the kind of rationale I despise. Because others do bad and are unpunished, he should be able to do bad and go unpunished.

My kids used to do this too...he did it first, she did it first, etc.

Not sure why this is expanding out beyond Brian Williams...this is not about the profession, this is about an individual.

Except, that's not and wasn't the idea. The idea was to further investigate a major network anchor and news director who admitted a story he told on air and off, for years, was a outright lie.

Either or... either he should keep his job, or every other lying sack of crap journalist should lose theirs. Consistency.

Moronic. I'm sure NBC can make sweeping firings across multiple networks and platforms.

Even if he did, it's called fact checking. No respected journalist who asks the public to trust him in what he reports will make up giant lies to increase their story. As soon as one instance of this comes out, all credibility with the public goes out the window. Nobody will ever watch him again and automatically assume he's telling the truth. That's a big problem for a news desk.
