Romo is pressing Jerry to re-sign DeMarco and Dez

Posted by Michael David Smith on January 24, 2015, 10:53 AM EST

Tony Romo wants Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray to remain in Dallas. Jerry Jones knows that.

Romo made sure Jones knows the importance of re-signing the Cowboys’ top wide receiver and top running back. Romo told KESN-FM that he’s been talking to Jones “pretty consistently” about re-signing both.

“I think everybody understands how great these guys are and how lucky we are to have them,” Romo said, via the Dallas Morning News. “Any time you get talented guys where you can put more than two on one side of the ball, you get three, four, if you’re lucky enough to ever get five, it’s one of those things where if you can put a group like that together you can make a run and be very difficult for teams to deal with for years. I think that’s what you’re trying to build ultimately is to have sustained success. We have an opportunity to have that.”

Romo didn’t say anything about taking a pay cut to help the Cowboys fit both Bryant and Murray under the salary cap, but one of the things that will help create some cap space is if Romo restructures his contract, as he’s expected to do. Jones is still hoping he can build a Super Bowl team with Romo at the helm, and so Jones would be willing to push some of Romo’s cap hit to future years if that helps the Cowboys win now.

If Romo's serious about getting a ring, he needs to restructure his contract and help Jerry make room to do just that.

He should be pressing Jerry to sign AD.

I really thought we had no intention of bringing Murray back, but maybe we do. I hope not.

Yeah, Tom Brady he ain't when it comes to sharing the wealth.

So if I were Romo, I'd STFU and learn to live with Randle if he doesn't want to take a shave.

Romo is most definitely going to restructure and has in the past. It is stupid to think that a player is just going to give money back to the organization.

Sounds like the clique really loves Murray. Honestly I feel like Murray's a little too nice for the position. If Rice and Peterson are any indication great running backs are sub human monsters.

I'm assuming you meant AP. I've really been on the fence about him but the more and more I think about it maybe we could ride him for a year or two. The only thing that really scares me is the injury history.

Actually, I think it's the complete opposite with Murray and that's what I like about him - his toughness and meanstreak.

He punishes defenders and sometimes does so on purpose as opposed to avoiding contact.

Although it is all funny money and cooking the books, Brady has got all kinds of credit for moving his money around in recent years.

If Romo and the Joneses are smart, they play it to look the same rather than do what they normally do.

Not sure where you are getting that vibe from...Murray often runs to contact and initiates hits. So much so that I've seen where he probably should have been flagged for leading with the helmet...and his stiff arms are pretty fierce.

Will Dallas have to make a determination on Murray before the NFL and Minnesota makes theirs on Petersen?

If the date for free agency is March 12 and the hearing for Petersen is April 15 seems like the determination on Murray will be made before the Petersen hearing. Unless I have these dates wrong.

If we apply the June 1 tender we have until late July to sign him. Or we can let him test the market starting March 12th. Which is what I prefer.

Yea, I can understand being apprehensive about resigning Murray for a few reasons, but him being "too nice" or not tough enough for the position is not one of them.
