Former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin’s contract is up and future remains uncertain

IRVING — Monte Kiffin, the man who was brought in just two short years ago to install the Dallas Cowboys’ Tampa 2 defense, faces an uncertain future with the club because his contract is now up.

Kiffin, who will turn 75 in February, came to the Cowboys from USC. As Dallas’ defensive coorindator in 2013, the Cowboys finished with the league’s worst defense and third-worst all-time. Rod Marinelli replaced Kiffin as defensive coordinator in 2014, and the Cowboys made Kiffin their assistant head coach/defense.

Marinelli, who just re-signed a three-year-contract with the Cowboys, and Kiffin remain close. But it appears there isn’t a spot left on the staff for Kiffin, though the Cowboys are still in conversations with him and working through their options.
---------------

Just sit him in the corner and turn on Matlock. He'll be fine.

Jerry will probably keep him around so there will be someone more senile than himself in the room.

I don't see why this is even a question. Give him a consultant title and let him hang around to keep marinelli happy.

Why wouldn't there be a spot for him? Not that I give a crap if he goes or stays unless Marinelli wants him around, but it isn't like we can't just make up another BS title for him

Unless someone can think of a valid reason that Kiffin should be cut loose i don't see what the problem is. The man has a wealth of experience.

I don't think anyone truly cares one way or the other. I do think no one wants Kiffin to actually coach players. Consult, as it were.
