Interesting. I wonder what they are hoping he will do. He went to Denver as the QB coach to work with Tebow and obviously failed. Then made OC but had Manning doing what he does. Not much of a resume for such a hot coaching commodity over the last 2 years.

The 49ers will definitely be taking a step back this next year.

Lots of strong personalities there too...I think Baalke is looking for someone to control. Fangio is also said to be bolting because he thinks the team needs a more veteran presence at HC.

Seeing stuff that the Gase deal is not finalized...SF needs to do that because you know Del Rio is going to try and take all the coaches with him to Oak.

I’m surprised there hasn’t been a lot grumblings about Marvin Lewis. He’s been there approximately 12 years and hasn’t won a single playoff game. Meanwhile in other NFL cities, coaches who’ve been to Super Bowls and won multiple playoff games within the last 6 years are being fired left and right.

Marv may be an illegitimate child of Paul Brown and keeping his job is part of his hush money package. Besides, Marv looks like he could be mixed.

Let Callahan go, promote Linehan officially to OC and block the move.
That's what I expect to happen. I like Callahan but he is under utilized here.

So now do we honestly have to worry about Linehan going anywhere now that the raiders hired Jack Del Rio?

I don't think we really ever had anything to worry about unless he was offered a HC job which seemed unlikely even for the Raiders. We obviously want him back, he seems happy here, and there should be a promotion open since almost no one expects Callahan to return.

Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is the favorite to land the Atlanta Falcons' head-coaching job, according to league sources, now that former Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles has landed in New York as the Jets' coach.

Atlanta is interviewing Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin on Wednesday, so he will have his chance to impress the Falcons and potentially try to change their minds. But sources close to and familiar with the Falcons' situation believe Atlanta is willing to wait for Quinn, and Quinn is willing to wait for them, making him the leading contender at this time to become the Falcons' next coach.

Quinn and the Falcons already have met once, and they will be allowed to do so next week, whether the Seahawks win or lose Sunday's NFC Championship Game. There is a window next week for teams that have already interviewed candidates to interview them again. Under the rules, the Denver Broncos cannot interview Quinn, but the Falcons and Chicago Bears would be able to do so.

Perhaps the biggest advantage and lure that Atlanta has is its quarterback, Matt Ryan. His presence makes the Falcons' job arguably the most appealing one available.

Report: Raiders hire Jack Del Rio

Posted by Josh Alper on January 14, 2015, 4:24 PM EST

Signs have pointed to Jack Del Rio landing the Raiders head coaching job for a while and now the deal is done.

Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report that Del Rio has agreed to a deal to become the 21st head coach in the history of the franchise. No details of the contract have been announced or reported yet.

The East Bay native had been the Broncos defensive coordinator for the last three seasons and replaced Dennis Allen in the job after Allen took the job as the Raiders head coach.

It’s Del Rio’s second head coaching job in the NFL. He went 68-71 as the head coach in Jacksonville from 2003 to 2011 and also served as the interim head coach in Denver in 2013 while John Fox was recovering from heart problems.

The Raiders will be looking to Del Rio to break their long playoff drought by building a winning team around young players like quarterback Derek Carr and linebacker Khalil Mack. Former Falcons head coach Mike Smith is reportedly going to join Del Rio in that effort as defensive coordinator, a job he filled for part of Del Rio’s Jacksonville tenure as well.

UPDATE 4:37 p.m. ET: Per multiple reports, it’s a four-year deal.

:lol

Supposedly Bowl Cut Davis wanted Del Rio, the GM (the football guy) wanted to keep Sparano.

Gase must have been close, but I think to keep their defensive staff together they had to do this. The OC hire for SF may be the most important hire a team makes this offseason.

Good luck with that.

Defense stays intact, but they better get a guy in there to fix Kaepernick or they will suck.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Gase now either slinks back to Denver or Atlanta grabs him.
