If you franchise Dez you're gonna have a true diva on your hands. I don't think he'd be a good soldier anymore at that point.

Heard this on the Fan this morning. He definitely sounded more inclined to franchise him than anything else. He stressed the importance of having to spread around the money btw multiple players.

They just need to get the deal done. It's that simple.

If he means a huge contract for Murray I am not behind this at all.

I don't know that the franchise tag allows you to "spread the money around more." The franchise tag for one year will probably cost more then the cap hit of a contract he signs would cost us in cap room in the first year. Murray would make way more sense to franchise FYI. Lower amount of money and RBs tend to burn out at a significantly higher rate.

As Jones said the franchise tag is a last resort. I think they can find enough coins to get Dez to ink the paper.

Me neither.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If I had to choose between Dez and Murray, I take Dez everytime.

Dez is a special player who would be way too hard to replace. I can see replacing Murray a lot easier than Dez.

Let's also not forget that this is the first healthy (meaning he missed no games) year that Murray has had and the fact that it's a contract year has a lot to do with that IMO.

Agree. He's already said the tag would upset him. And some of his friends in the media have said that while he's a good guy and good teammate, he absolutely wants top money.

That said, I think Jerry pays him huge money before he tags him. Jerry loves his pet projects, and Dez is his most successful pet project ever.

Absolutely. Sign Dez long term and either sign Murray short term or tag him until he is run down and replace him

I never ever worry about homegrown stars leaving the team because Jerry simply does not allow that to happen.

There is ZERO chance of Dez not getting a deal done in Dallas. It's just a matter of time.

2015 base cap is $140,000,000, and Dallas is only $1,787,645 under as of right now.

Where does money for Dez, Murray, McClain, etc. come from? Here are the top dollars:

PlayerBase Salary (Guaranteed)Cap Number
Tony Romo$17,000,000 ($7,500,000)$27,773,000
Tyron Smith$11,039,000($11,039,000)$13,039,000
Brandon Carr$8,000,000$12,717,000
Doug Free*$8,000,000$11,020,000
Henry Melton**$9,000,000$9,250,250
Jason Witten$5,100,000$8,512,000
Sean Lee$2,500,000$5,450,000
Morris Claiborne$2,607,887($2,607,887)$5,175,069
Orlando Scandrick$1,500,000$4,351,250

*Free's numbers are if we pick up his option.
**Melton's gets $9,000,000 guaranteed as part of a 24 million extension if he's on the roster on the first league day 2015 (Feb 2nd?).

Clearly you'd love to reduce/cut Carr somehow, but he'd have to be a post June cut because he has over 12 million in pending signing bonus proration. Even as a June 1st cut he counts over 8 mil against 2016.

Melton and Free's options won't be picked up which will free up a ton of cap space. I'd tell Carr to take a pay cut or be cut. Those moves should provide us the cap space we need.

I'm not counting on Claiborne for much next year, I'm torn if we should just cut him to save cap or keep him around for one last year to see if he can provide some type of help.
