Dez Bryant's sideline message: 'No time to relax'
December, 5, 2014

By Tim MacMahon | ESPNDallas.com

CHICAGO -- A national television audience once again got treated to the titillating sight of Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant screaming at teammates on the sideline.

On this occasion, Bryant expressed his anger after the Cowboys twice settled for field goals in the fourth quarter instead of finishing drives and stepping on the Chicago Bears' throats at Soldier Field.

Bryant said he hollered at teammates that they needed to seize the opportunity and not let up.

"No time to relax," Bryant said after the Cowboys' 41-28 win. "We're not going to relax because we've got an opportunity. That's the only thing I think about is an opportunity. We've got an opportunity to do something.

"Everybody knows I hate field goals. I love Dan Bailey, but hey, it is what it is. All I care about is us getting that W. There's been too many situations. We got [to get] our s--- right. We got it right."

Bryant, who caught six passes for 82 yards but was not targeted on either of the fourth-quarter drives that resulted in field goals, adamantly denied that he demanded the ball or complained about not getting an opportunity to make a play.

"F--- no. Hell no," Bryant said. "Anybody will tell you in this locker room, it's an unselfish mindset. That's what we're creating up in here. It's making sure, hey, we're doing what we're doing to win this game, not being relaxed. We don't want that. We've got an opportunity to do something big."

Bryant acknowledged that his sideline rants could look bad on television. He's not exactly concerned about perception.

"I do not care," Bryant said. "Because I know I'm not doing anything wrong. They don't know what's going on. I can't care less. They ain't on no sidelines. Nobody's on the sidelines with us.

"The only thing they're waiting for us to do is take an L and they can talk a bunch of s--- about us. ‘Oh, the same ol' Cowboys in December.' C'mon, man. Ain't none of that. We're going to take advantage of what we need to take advantage of.

"I don't give a f--- who films it. That's the truth. That's the truth. That's how I feel. As long as we get the W, that's all that matters."

I love the part where he admits hating field goals. Pure awesomeness.

And the best part is that both he and Scandrick were completely justified in the way they blew up on the sideline last night.

The whole team, players and coaches, eased up after we got a big lead. It was a noticable change in philosophy, and it pisses me off just as much as it does Dez or Scandrick.

This team has a horrible track record of blowing leads. Why the hell anybody thought it was okay to let off the gas pedal, or not try to "show the Bears up", is a mystery to me.

If a team hands you an opportunity to put 7 points on the board, you take it. Period. They were content with playing prevent defense and being generic as hell on offense.

I love how this guy steps up time after time. He's a winner. Saw a lot of that from Scandrick too.

Talk the talk and walk the walk. These are Cowboys? Cool to finally see.

Easily my favorite football player. It's been like watching your kid grow up in front of your eyes. He isn't the kid that came here anymore.

It was good to see both Dez and Scandrick get pissed off. So many of our players have pathetic body language, especially when things go south.

Yep, when Tom Brady does that stuff he is being a big time leader. Dez is doing the exact same thing, people just aren't used to see that come from the WR as opposed to a QB. Fact is, that stuff isn't in Romo's nature, so we need someone like Dez Bryant to step up into that leadership role.

Scandrick was the man of the hour last night. To go off like he did, and then make the final statement play. Classic.

Agreed. Watch the Patriots. If they can put up 50 on you they will.

They don't slow down just because they're up 40-10 with 10 minutes to play. Belichick will keep his starters out there and they'll continue to play hard until the end.

Yep. Did you see the look on Cutler's face last night?

He looked bored, disinterested, and out of it for most of the 2nd half.

If my team is getting their asses handed to them at home I want my team leader to show a little emotion to try to jump start the rest of the team. Not sit there like a bump on a log.

It's why I have no problem at all when Dez goes into one of his rants. Someone has to show a little emotion from time to time.

Yeah, what should have been a relaxing Thursday night game with my nachos ended up being a nail biter and a chance of puking up my nachos. F this team and their mindset.

I liked him before, but after that he's moved up several rungs. Granted I felt the same about Harris last year and he's since disappeared, but I'm really happy Scandrick is a Cowboy.

You know, while the guy doesn't run perfect routes and doesn't catch every pass that he should, he's more worthy of wearing #88 than any player since Michael Irvin. We need guys like he and Scandrick who play with some fire and display it openly, who act like they give a rat's ass when things aren't going as well as they should. He is worth resigning for those reasons alone.

Dez is up to 50 TD territory. Which among active receivers, leaves him flanked on all sides by white people.

46 Jordy Nelson
50 Wes Welker
50 Dez Bryant
50 Jimmy Graham
51 Rob Gronkowski
53 Dallas Clark
