Club files lawsuit against Josh Brent

Updated: December 4, 2014, 5:55 PM ET

CHICAGO -- As Josh Brent prepares to possibly play in his first game since his involvement in a car accident that caused the death of teammate and friend Jerry Brown two years ago, the Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle is dealing with a lawsuit.

Beamers Nightclub has filed suit against Brent asking that he be held responsible for damages against the club in a separate lawsuit filed by Brown's father, Jerry Brown Sr.

Josh Brent is the subject of a lawsuit filed by the since-closed Privae Lounge.

Privae Lounge, the club Brent and some teammates attended that night, has since closed its doors. It had its license suspended by the state after it found the bar overserved Brent.

Brent was convicted of intoxication manslaughter last January and was sentenced to six months in jail and 10 years probation. He was released early from jail and spent time at a treatment facility.

Brent was reinstated by the NFL in September and was suspended the first 10 games of the season. He has been eligible to play the last two games but was inactive for both contests. He has practiced for the last six weeks, and the coaches have said his conditioning has improved.

The Cowboys play the Chicago Bears on Thursday night. Brent has not played in a game since Dec. 2, 2012, against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The circus never ends.

There's a diehard Bears fan right across the street from me who complains about how badly they suck recently. I saw him when he came home from work and told him to enjoy tonight. I hope I'm wrong and he doesn't.

As an aside...I don't know who the fuck that was in the graphic when they were talking about Josh Brent on the telecast last night, but it sure was not him.
