I read this as "I definitely will try to – will obviously not leave any evidence of the beating on her so that I don't get in trouble".
That's exactly how I read that, as well.

Adrian Peterson is most likely done in Minnesota

In the immediate aftermath of the child-abuse charges filed against Adrian Peterson, it seemed probable that he wouldn’t be playing for the Vikings after the 2014 season. It’s now likely that Peterson will never wear a Vikings uniform again.

Essentially suspended with pay until his legal case is resolved and with no sign that it’ll be resolved before the end the year, Peterson’s stat line come Week 17 will be one game, 75 yards rushing.

Then, after the season ends, the Vikings will move on. For a variety of reasons, including the $12.75 million he’s due to earn in 2015.

A week ago, the Vikings were tied to Peterson because Peterson was the face of the franchise at a time when the franchise was embarking on a two-year stay at an undersized college stadium. Now, the Vikings will have no choice but to move on from a man who has quickly become equal parts distraction and pariah.

The contract can’t be traded without a major restructuring, and Peterson may have no desire to finish his career with the Cowboys after getting a heaping helping of the not-so-hospitable Texas criminal justice system. In the end, Peterson will land with a team that can withstand the reaction from its fans and from the media — or with a team run by a G.M. and/or a head coach who need to win in order to save their jobs. Or maybe the Raiders.

Regardless, the great Paul Allen likely has shouted “He’s loose!” about Peterson for the last time. By next year, Peterson will be loose in a very different way.

Now his tenure is up in Minnesota. No wonder he didn't say contract.

Adrian Peterson breaks silence to say he asked for a polygraph

Posted by Michael David Smith on September 20, 2014, 11:41 AM EDT

Adrian Peterson has made his first public comment since Wednesday, when the Vikings cast him aside as a result of widespread outrage following his indictment on charges of injuring his son. And his comment is that he asked for a polygraph test.

Peterson wrote on Twitter that he made the polygraph test and added, “Share that as well!” in an apparent belief that it’s an important part of the story that has been publicly overlooked.

It’s unclear why Peterson thinks that’s an important thing to share. A polygraph, or lie detector, is not particularly reliable and is not admissible in court. It’s also irrelevant to a case like Peterson’s, where the accused has already admitted what he did: Peterson acknowledged both to the police and through a statement released by his attorney that he beat his son with a switch, causing cuts and bruises to his son’s legs, back, buttocks and scrotum. The question a jury will ultimately settle is whether that constitutes negligent or reckless injury to a child under Texas law, not whether Peterson is telling the truth about what happened.

So let’s assume that Peterson asked for a polygraph because he wants to show he is telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about the “whooping” he says he gave his son. That changes nothing about the fact that the “whooping” left his son injured.

Why does he need a polygraph? Makes no sense at all.

Adrian Peterson ordered arrested
Updated: October 9, 2014, 3:42 PM ET
ESPN.com news services

Prosecutors in Montgomery County, Texas, have filed paperwork to have Adrian Peterson's bail revoked and the running back re-arrested after the Minnesota Vikings running back told a court employee that he had recently smoked marijuana before taking a drug test Wednesday.

According to the filing, Peterson admitted to a court employee that he had "smoked a little weed" before the test.

Peterson has been free on $15,000 bond on a charge of felony child abuse. A trial has tentatively been set to begin Dec. 1.

There likely won't be any action Thursday on the prosecutors' filing as the current judge in the Peterson case is scheduled for a recusal hearing on Friday.

On Wednesday, Peterson's attorney, Rusty Hardin, urged the public to not "rush to judgment" with his client, who is accused of striking his 4-year-old son with a switch.

If he is convicted on the child abuse charge, Peterson could face six months to two years in state prison, though he could be placed on probation as a first-time offender. He also could be subjected to NFL discipline under the league's enhanced domestic violence policy, which can suspend players for up to six weeks.

Peterson has been on the NFL's exempt/commissioner's permission list since Sept. 17, and he is receiving his full $11.75 million salary. Yet he is barred from all team activities until his case is resolved.

ESPN - Breaking: NFL suspends Vikings RB Adrian Peterson for at least the remainder of the 2014 season

Adrian Peterson has been suspended without pay for at least the remainder of the 2014 season, the NFL announced Tuesday.

The Minnesota Vikings star running back will not be considered for reinstatement before April 15, 2015, for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Peterson is appealing the suspension right away, a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Peterson was indicted in September on a felony charge of injury to a child for using a wooden switch to discipline his 4-year-old son earlier this year. But the All-Pro pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of misdemeanor reckless assault earlier this month, setting the stage for the NFL's ruling.

The league announced Peterson's suspension in a lengthy statement, citing "an incident of abusive discipline that he inflicted on his four-year-old son."

The statement also included excerpts of a letter to Peterson written by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who has required that Peterson undergoes counseling and treatment in order to be reinstated.

"We are prepared to put in place a program that can help you to succeed, but no program can succeed without your genuine and continuing engagement," Goodell wrote in the letter. "You must commit yourself to your counseling and rehabilitative effort, properly care for your children, and have no further violations of law or league policy."

NFLPA STATEMENT ON ADRIAN PETERSON SUSPENSION

The decision by the NFL to suspend Adrian Peterson is another example of the credibility gap that exists between the agreements they make and the actions they take. Since Adrian’s legal matter was adjudicated, the NFL has ignored their obligations and attempted to impose a new and arbitrary disciplinary proceeding.

The facts are that Adrian has asked for a meeting with Roger Goodell, the discipline imposed is inconsistent and an NFL executive told Adrian that his time on the Commissioner’s list would be considered as time served.

The NFLPA will appeal this suspension and will demand that a neutral arbitrator oversee the appeal.

We call on the NFL Management Council to show our players and our sponsors leadership by committing to collective bargaining so a fair personal conduct policy can be implemented as quickly as possible.

First time domestic abusers get a 6 game suspension per the new policies. So damn inconsistent.

I believe it is worded so that it's a minimum of a 6 game suspension. Which obviously still leaves a massive amount of ambiguity.

Peterson's season over after ruling
Updated: November 18, 2014, 5:39 PM ET
ESPN.com news services

Arbitrator Shyam Das ruled in favor of the NFL on Tuesday evening, saying the league can keep Adrian Peterson on the commissioner's exempt list, effectively ending any chance the Minnesota Vikings running back will play again this season.

Earlier Tuesday, Peterson was suspended without pay for at least the remainder of this season. Das' ruling was in reference to a grievance Peterson had filed arguing he should have been reinstated from the exempt list as soon as there was a resolution in his child abuse case, which came with his no contest plea on Nov. 4. Das' ruling was not connected to the suspension.

A source told ESPN's Andrew Brandt reports that Das ruled that Peterson "failed to establish on this record that the NFL violated either the letter agreement or the CBA."

The NFL Players Association announced earlier Tuesday that it planned to appeal Peterson's suspension and sharply rebuked what it called the league's inconsistency and unfairness in the process.

Due to Das' ruling, Peterson will remain on the exempt list until the appeal of his suspension is heard.

Peterson was placed on the exempt list Sept. 18 following his indictment on felony child abuse in Texas, and was to remain on the list while his case went through the courts. On Nov. 4, Peterson pleaded no contest to misdemeanor reckless assault for injuries to his 4-year-old son with a switch, essentially resolving his case.

Vikings upset Goodell suspended Peterson for season: source

The Vikings are standing by Adrian Peterson and aren’t happy at all about Roger Goodell’s season-ending suspension of their All-Pro running back, The Post has learned.

Despite a brief statement Tuesday afternoon saying that the Vikings “respect” Goodell’s decision, a source with knowledge of the team’s thinking said owners Zygi and Mark Wilf are privately fuming because they want Peterson on the field.

The Vikings also have no plans to cut or trade Peterson during the suspension, which runs through April 15, 2015, the source said.

Goodell suspended Peterson on Tuesday for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy after Peterson pleaded no contest this month in Harris County, Texas, to misdemeanor assault for beating his four-year-old son with a stick last summer.

The Vikings are upset with Goodell’s decision but will abide by it because it is out of their hands, the source said.
Peterson’s future with the Vikings beyond his suspension, however, appears to be up in the air.

The source said the Vikings have not discussed their 2015 roster, and that the final decision on whether to keep Peterson if his NFL suspension is lifted next spring would be up to general manager Rick Spielman and coach Mike Zimmer.

That decision might remain out of the Vikings’ hands because Goodell made it clear in his suspension letter to Peterson he is concerned about Peterson’s continuing lack of remorse.

Goodell also said Peterson has a high bar to overcome in terms of counseling before the ban will be lifted.

Peterson and the NFL Players Association have vowed to appeal the ban and likely contest it in court, saying that Goodell’s punishment has been inconsistent and arbitrary.

Seems like bending to twitter outcries is pretty much the only policy in place for the league anymore on this stuff. Public opinion dictates punishment pretty clearly.
