I would. He's shown to be a really good D coordinator. I take my chances with him.
I thought his Texas D was too soft but everything at UT under Mack Brown was too soft. He had a pretty tough D when he was working for Saban at LSU.

What an epic meltdown from Notre Dame.
That was pathetic. Piss away a double digit lead in the final five minutes against a then 3-6 NW team that has struggled on offense but put up 40 points and over 500 yards of offense? Going for two with an eleven point lead? There was some seriously crappy coaching and play calling going on in that game. Even more turnovers by Golson yet he continues to play, even though he dinged his shoulder on top of everything else.

They got bumped from both polls and they deserved to be.

I think he definitely goes 2nd or lower...teams just do not value the position that much anymore.

Does he drop into the 2nd round now? Could he fall as far as the 3rd?
It's hard to say. If you recall, Willis McGahee was still a 1st round pick even though he tore his ACL in the middle of the National Championship Game against Ohio State.

I don't think so. Willis McGahee had a bad injury even later in the year and wasn't nearly as dominant, still went first round.

See Carp's post.

Big difference now from over 10 years ago in how RB's are viewed.

The top RB went 54 overall last year...now Gurley is definitely a better prospect, but he is coming off a torn ACL. Bernard was the top RB taken the year before and he was a 2nd rounder. I just think teams think they can get them later.

His injury is not as severe as Lattimore, but that can be a reference point as well. BTW...2012 was the last draft to take RBs in the first...turned out to be a shit show with Richardson, Martin, and Wilson.

I would strongly consider Gurley if he was there with our 2nd, Gordon is my preferred choice overall right now though.

Big difference between Gurley and the backs in the draft over the last 10 years is how good he is. And let's not forget, passing on RBs high is a new concept. Trent Richardson was a top 5 guy just a few seasons ago. Just cause Lacy went later than expected doesn't mean this will be a yearly pattern.

Oh, no doubt. I was just citing an example. The relevance of the example is more than subject to question given the way the game had transitioned away from a featured RB system.

Mike Shanahan made a career of passing on RBs. His system was designed to be "plug and play" where any RB will get you 1,000+ yards.

Ya, and how many other people have had that success with so many different late round backs? Just because one coach made a pattern for himself doesn't mean the league will.

One thing I can say about TTU that I'm proud of is that the fans are still showing up. You are at this point in the season with little hope of winning and no bowl game with 59k in the stands.

No doubt. Draft Gurley in the second and franchise Murray. I like that solution.

Our offense is going to be built around the running game moving forward, or at least it should be, so that's why I'd put a premium on adding a talented RB as high as the 2nd even if we re-sign Murray.

If we can get a guy like Gordon or Abduallah you're set up to preserve Murray and you have his replacement on the roster for 3-4 years from now. We would also be in position to take a gamble on a talent like Gurley since we wouldn't have to count on him and could slowly integrate him.

I don't think we have to invest in that high of a pick at RB. I'd much rather address the defensive front 7 and S position in the first three rounds and then take a Langford, Allen, Johnson type.

I honestly would too but if the player is there that has great value you take him. We obviously need the positions that you mentioned but if the RB is better than anyone left at that point you take him.

Yep, same here. I can understand maybe... maybe a 3rd on a RB, but 4th and later is fine with me. For the same reasons you stated.
