Yes.Did Winston play baseball?
I believe the Rangers drafted him out of high school but he also plays at FSU.

Please shut up with that.Did Winston play baseball?
If you believe Jones, a high draft pick for QB is not in the picture for sometime. He expects Romo to play for another 5 years. The only way a high draft pick will be considered is if something happens to TR.Like I said, I am not hung up on Winston, but I am also not taking him off the draft board. On talent alone he is the best QB in this class to me. I'd definitely take him in the 2nd, but someone will take him before then.
As an aside...I do like Kevin Hogan and Jacoby Brissett is my late round guy.
I never understood the concept of just taking guys off your draft board. Unless of course the guy is just such a cancer that you could never see him making your team. Sure we all know Winston will be gone by the middle to late second round but he should still be on your draft board somewhere even if you don't rate him as a first. It drives me nuts when I hear all these different top prospects that just aren't on the Cowboys draft board. Just annoys the shit out of me and I think sometimes you miss out on a player as a result.Like I said, I am not hung up on Winston, but I am also not taking him off the draft board. Jones says quite a few things...if that knee to the back is in a different spot we might have been looking at the end of Romo.If you believe Jones, a high draft pick for QB is not in the picture for sometime. That would have been an option. If we drafted a QB 3 years ago he would leave as a free agent. Or did you mean draft 3 years ago and not extend Romo? In that case I totally get that.
The only way Jones changes his mind is if Romo does suffer a disabling injury. He is locked in with a contract and as long as he can perform, Jones will keep him in the lineup. If you want to see the organization go after a high draft choice QB, then pray for Romo' s career demise.Jones says quite a few things...if that knee to the back is in a different spot we might have been looking at the end of Romo.
Which is why I stated that if the knee had landed in a different spot on his back we might be looking at the end of Romo.

I understand. You think Jones should be anticipatory and plan accordingly and so do I but I am saying Jones won't take that approach. Romo will have to go down before he will take a different path.Which is why I stated that if the knee had landed in a different spot on his back we might be looking at the end of Romo.
Well, he wanted to take Manziel...so it does seem like he would draft a QB.I understand. You think Jones should be anticipatory and plan accordingly and so do I but I am saying Jones won't take that approach. Romo will have to go down before he will take a different path.
This makes no sense since he was ready to draft Manziel last year, if another prospect drops he will be interested, again.

Don't hold you breath waiting for a high draft choice. He was talked out of it because he is impulsive and as Carp said he says a lot of things. He also said he expects Romo to play for 5 years. As much as I would like to see a legitimate QB drafted my memory is absent of Jones going after one in the draft. What he says and what he does don't always mesh. It's not my approach it just the way things have been. This makes no sense since he was ready to draft Manziel last year, if another prospect drops he will be interested, again.
You'll never get more than a second out of a guy who hasn't had a season as a starter to show what he can do. Sometimes you can't even get that. Look at Mallet (wish we'd been in on that trade, anyone would be better than Weeden). That would have been an option.
And we never would have just let a QB walk... If he was good we would have flipped him for picks.
So draft a guy in the 2nd or 3rd, get a couple years of service out of him as a backup QB, and then flip him for a 2nd or 3rd? Seems ok to me.You'll never get more than a second out of a guy who hasn't had a season as a starter to show what he can do. Sometimes you can't even get that. You're giving up value trading a pick this year for an equal pick 3 years later. You're better off trading the picks and loading up on future picks directly. Then you'll have plenty of draft picks for when you need a QB.So draft a guy in the 2nd or 3rd, get a couple years of service out of him as a backup QB, and then flip him for a 2nd or 3rd? ... and you're also getting three years of a cheap backup QB as well as a lottery ticket that you might be able to cash in someday. You're giving up value trading a pick this year for an equal pick 3 years later.
I've yet to see us take this approach either. You're better off trading the picks and loading up on future picks directly. Then you'll have plenty of draft picks for when you need a QB.
Well no shit you don't draft guys who project to be backups. You take a guy you project as a starter. If I see a guy as a backup, not a future starter for my team, I'm not drafting him (especially with a premium pick). There are adequate backups available in Free Agency every year. No need to burn a pick on that kind of player.
Yeah, but a lot of times you don't. I'd have agreed with you before the Pats got nothing for Mallett. A guy who was a well regarded prospect who slipped because of character concerns but who has kept his nose clean and been the guy they trusted to back up Brady should have been a hot commodity. He wasn't. The league had shifted from "maybe we can get a Matt Shaub" to "don't try to pawn your Kevin Kolb off on us, asshole". You can't count on flipping those players, Packers' Style, right now.... and you're also getting three years of a cheap backup QB as well as a lottery ticket that you might be able to cash in someday.
It's not some horrible investment when you get out a similar pick to what you put in.
Thanks to Jerry's 'win now' 'always on the cusp' mentality. If I could trade my second round pick for a first next year or my third for a second next year or trade down from the lower half of the first to the second for a first next year I would do it every year.I've yet to see us take this approach either.
