Rumors are swirling that the Cubs will be the landing spot for Maddon. I'm crossing my fingers but not holding my breath. Just assuming Mattingly will get the axe in LA and that Maddon will rejoin Friedman.

Guys like Ken Rosenthal are putting the Cubs thing out there though, so maybe they know something. That would be outstanding. They'd have to pay Rick Renteria a chunk of change to go away, but for a guy like Maddon I think they would.

I've been reading a good 5 teams or so will make offers but the Cubs will be the leaders if they decide to make a move. Would be great for them, but I would think he'd want to go to a team with money and a willingness to spend it.

They have money and a willingness to spend it. They just haven't been spending much recently because they've been rebuilding the roster and shedding payroll rather than adding it, plus sinking money into Wrigley Field, etc. Their payroll is in great shape because of the high amount of cost-controlled players they have over the next several seasons. Combine that with the the talent they have put together and I think it's an ideal situation for any manager. The Mets would be another team I think would be appealing to Maddon or any other high-profile manager looking for a job.

I'd love to see Maddon coach the Mets, but for whatever reason Alderson seems sold on Collins. Unfortunately, Backman does not look like he is ever going to get a chance to manage the Mets, which I would love.

I am interested to see what the Mets do with SS and 2B. Murphy is certainly an excellent offensive player, so I can live with his limited defense. Flores actually fielded the position better than I thought he would, but with him at SS he has to hit 15-20 HRs to make up for his lack of range. I almost think one of them has to go...defense is at such a premium right now, it is tough to have 2 fairly limited fielders up the middle.

Wow...Oscar Tavares from the Cards died in a car crash...only 22. Big time prospect...hit a big HR in the NLDS. RIP

Report: Cubs in talks with Maddon, could have answer by Friday
FOX Sports
OCT 29, 2014 8:01a ET

The Chicago Cubs are in talks with Joe Maddon about their managerial position and could have an answer by Friday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Maddon, who has spent the past nine seasons as the Tampa Bay Rays' manager, exercised an opt-out clause in his contract on Oct. 24. During his tenure, the Rays won two AL East titles, reached the postseason four times and advanced to the World Series in 2008. Before Maddon took over, the team hadn't had a winning season in its 10-year history.

Rick Renteria led the Cubs to a 73-89 finish this past season, his first as the team's manager. He has two more guaranteed years remaining on his contract. :wave

Renteria released the following statement Monday: "I was hired nearly a year ago to be the Chicago Cubs manager. Notwithstanding all the speculation, I continue to focus my offseason preparation on achieving the goal we established from the start: bringing a championship to Chicago."

The Cubs aren't alone in their pursuit of Maddon, as MLB.com reports Maddon's agent has talked with 10 teams, including the Cubs. Other than the Rays, only the Minnesota Twins currently have a managerial opening.

No idea how many more wins a manager like Maddon will create when compared to a guy like Renteria. The difference is probably pretty minor overall, but I really like the idea of this guy with a proven track record who has a new-school, numbers-heavy approach to managing. I think it's a great fit. He'll have a young team that will be adding some veteran arms and should be a team that starts making serious waves in the NL in the next year or two.

Sounds like this was a done deal already. There will be cries of tampering. Let them cry. Seriously doubt they can prove anything.

Maddon is a good manager but unless I'm mistake, he can't hit or pitch.

I predict more 90-loss seasons in your future.

I'm conflicted about tonight's Game 7.

I want the Royals to win but I'd also love to see Tim Hudson get a ring.

Hudson should have let that ball go to the plate. I think he cost his team a run as the throw likely beats the runner.

That was Belt. Either way, I don't think they had a play. Ball was going to dribble to the plate.

Not a huge baseball fan, but like Giants because it annoys Dodgers fan. Is a 0.26 era any good?
