Lawrence looking quick, explosive; ’Boys expect him to be a ‘significant contributor'

I just don't believe in 250 pound defensive ends, no matter how quick they may be. 265-275 (260 if talented enough) is perfect on the weak side and 275-285 good for the strong side.

Lawrence is a man without a position in this defense, and I suspect a future move to Sam ala Von Miller in Denver or Bruce Irvin in Seattle.

In order for that to happen though he needs to prove he can cover, and that's no sure thing for a college lineman.
Go back and look at the size of the DEs that Marinelli had in Tampa. They were all in that range and they were very effective.

As long as we keep running the ball, we can afford a small, fast defense. It's harder to wear those guys down when they are only on the field for 20 minutes.

Greg Spires and Simeon Rice were each over 265, and Rice was an elite talent as a top five pick.

I know what you're saying Deuce but this kid is too small. 15-20 pounds is a big deal in the NFL as that extra muscle lets you dish out and also take more. Lawrence needs time to build a real NFL body.

I hope so. Dallas needs to rotate this kid in, but I think it wouldn't hurt to get him snaps at Sam just in case.

Lawrence weighed in at 251 at the combine, Marinelli says he's been in the weight room and has added muscle so it's not unrealistic to think that he's at least 255 right now, and he may be hovering around 260.

That's also what I hoped when they said he's "filled out".

If so then he's on the right path, but normally you don't spend a 2nd round pick on someone who has to basically resculpt themselves before becoming effective.

Shit if he is only 255 lbs total bust. I only wish he was 260 because then he could be a legit stud...

At what juncture in the offseason, up through camp, did you read or hear anything at all about this guy literally having to "resculpt" himself? You do know it's perfectly natural for a kid coming out of college to be on the lean side of things when he first gets to the NFL right? And sure enough, he's put on some muscle and size in that NFL strength and conditioning program thing.

Jason Taylor weighed in at 244 at the combine.
... and slipped to the 3rd round because of it. But yeah, Taylor in his prime is what we've got to hope our boy becomes. Examples like him are few and far between, though, and even still it took Taylor years to learn how to stay healthy.

Lawrence could be one of the missing pieces to the puzzle if he comes back and plays well. Getting Brent into the rotation might help as well. We need a better pass rush, that much is for certain, we're at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to taking down the QB and that will have to change if we're going to have long term success.

Kony Ealy weighs 275 very important pounds.

Those 2 tackles he has already have people thinking HOFer.

I am really anxious to see what he can do. If we can get some pressure from him, it will disrupt the pocket even more and allow others to get sacks if nothing else.

Yeah, that is frustrating to watch. One guy breaks free for pressure, and the QB steps up or rolls away from it. Nobody else there to clean up.

It's extremely frustrating. We are getting pressure, but just can't deliver any sacks. Granted, it disrupts the pocket and the rhythm of the QB, but that's not enough... especially when we face a good offense. We need that QB on his back.
