Jerry Jones wants to see more touches for Cowboys’ backup backs

Posted by Michael David Smith on October 4, 2014, 10:17 AM EDT

Jerry Jones has some thoughts about the Cowboys’ offensive play calling.

Jones said that with DeMarco Murray on pace to carry the ball 396 times this season, it would be a good idea to get backup running backs Lance Dunbar and Joseph Randle more involved to make sure Murray stays healthy for 16 games.

“If we can, it would be good to have Dunbar with a few more touches,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan, via the Dallas Morning News. “But make no mistake about it, Joseph Randle can be effective out there, too. We probably should have at least Randle get a few more snaps. I think he got seven the other day, and you probably could push that up if you’re going to have that many run plays, you probably could double that and be pretty smart about how you’re exposing Murray.”

Murray has 99 carries and nine catches this year, a workload that would be almost impossible to keep up — especially for someone with a history of injuries like Murray. Dunbar (who has 11 carries and five catches) and Randle (nine carries and zero catches) are likely to get more involved in the offense, whether that’s a matter of game planning or a matter of necessity because Murray gets hurt.

How about this... how about we let the OC that's having massive success determine who gets touches and who doesn't? In short, STFU.

So he's wrong? Pretty much everyone here has said the same thing. But since Jerry says it?

Come on, now.

Everyone else doesn't have a mic in their face. Let the successful OC do what he does and STFU about it. You should have no say on what the team does on the field.

Who said anything about being a real fan? But, carry on if you think it will make you feel better.

Thanks.

And I didn't say anything about anyone being a real fan, either. I said I'D try to be better.

You just have to keep stacking good days, get better in all 3 phases. It's a process.

Jerry is saying the right thing but to the wrong people in the wrong forum. It's not his place to call out the OC.

Why not? As GM he actually has a responsibility to oversee how the team is being directed. The only thing I might take issue with is allowing the media to know what's on you agenda for the team. He can't resist the spotlight.

Ever hear of chain of command? Even in a business you don't want to undermine your subordinates by going straight to their subordinates. His concerns should have been addressed to Garrett, and not in the media.

Exactly, just STFU when they ask and if you have issue take it up with the ones beneath you. He just can't fucking help himself.

I don’t give two shits what he says...and it appears many in the staff and front office don't either. If he still had big sway we'd be watching Manziel throwing it 50 times a game right now. I know I said people around him don't have authority, but that was tongue in cheek. Jerry is going to say stupid shit all the time, but it does not seem like he is the final word anymore.

Great. This just means we feed the ball to an inferior player because our idiot owner is injecting his stupid opinion into it.

Linehan has already said, no, it is too early to think about "pitch counts".

Jerry already has future game plans lined out. No worries.

That pitch count got jacked up by 31. This is becoming a problem. What happens when he's too beat up to run in December? It's not fair to either the team or Murray.

Hmm...this did not alter his workload, but can we still fag out about this?
