I do think he is a good DC, but not sure anyone could win with that mess in Oak. I'd take him as an asst coach right now.

I honestly don't know how you fix Oakland. They probably can't find a respectable veteran head coach to take that job so it'll probably be another up and coming coordinator.

Once you get a coach bring him in and commit to him for a MINIMUM of 4 years. No more of this changing coaches every other year nonsense.

Next I guess you take the Cowboys approach and start in the trenches. Focus on shoring up the OL & DL.

In the draft and FA start choosing substance over flash. Sometimes it's okay to settle for a double rather than swinging for the fences.

Oakland still is in recover mode from the Seymour and Palmer trades. The players they could have gotten with those picks should be part of their current core. Instead they are left without either player and no picks. They also surrendered a 3rd in the supplemental draft for Pryor.

The Raiders have fired head coach Dennis Allen, and there’s one man Raiders owner Mark Davis would love to hire next: Jon Gruden.

Gruden coached the Raiders from from 1998 to 2001 and then beat the Raiders in the Super Bowl after Davis’s father, the late Raiders owner Al Davis, traded him to the Buccaneers. Gruden has long been viewed as the first choice for Mark Davis as the person who could come back and turn the franchise around.

But it remains to be seen whether Gruden is interested in the job. Publicly, Gruden has always insisted that he loves working as a commentator and has a contract that ties him to ESPN for years to come. But few people believe Gruden would turn down the right opportunity to return to coaching.

The question, then, is whether he views Oakland as the right opportunity. Given the current state of the franchise, which hasn’t made the playoffs since Gruden beat them in the Super Bowl after the 2002 season, Gruden may have no interest. But if Davis were to offer Gruden significantly more money than ESPN is paying him, and offer Gruden the authority to oversee the personnel department and pick his own players, it could pique Gruden’s interest. Don’t be surprised if Davis makes a run at Gruden.

And if Gruden says no, Jim Harbaugh’s name is being floated. This could get fun.

Rumor mill is saying Raiders will go after Gruden. If he's smart, he'll turn them down.

Sparano is a good choice for an interim.

Offensive talent is terrible, but they have pretty good talent on the defensive side of the ball.
They do, but it's oddly scattershot. It's basically a collection of various kinds of talent but no particular defensive identity to fit them into.

A big part of it is losing first rounders for Palmer and Seymour...and also just bad first round picks.

2014--Mack looks good
2013--Hayden was a massive reach
2012--Traded for Palmer
2011--Trade for Seymour
2010--Rolando McClain
2009--Darius Heyward-Bey

They just completely fucked themselves over with some bad trades/decisions.

That McClain guy is looking pretty good this season
