ST. LOUIS -- Another game, another groin injury for the Dallas Cowboys' defense.

Defensive tackle Henry Melton’s groin bothered him for most of Sunday’s win against the St. Louis Rams. The injury caused Melton, who had one tackle and a fumble recovery, to remove himself from the game in the fourth quarter.

"Melton had a little twinge but played with it," owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. "He took himself out right at the end. But he played with it for most of the day."

Melton was sidelined for several practices and did not play in the preseason because of a strained groin.

Starting linebackers Justin Durant and Rolando McClain were inactive against the Rams because of groin injuries. Durant has not played or practiced since straining his groin in the season opener. McClain strained his groin in last week’s win against the Tennessee Titans and did not practice all week.

Jones said the hope is that McClain will be able to play next week against the Saints. The original timetable for Durant’s recovery was three to four weeks, but he is also hoping to play next week.

This guy has been disappointing. Maybe he's not healthy, but if he can't get on the field, that's the disappointing part. The fact that it's nagging injuries makes me more suspicious.

He'll probably be gone after one season.

We have no chance against the Saints without Melton (not that we have much of a chance to start with). To beat the Saints, we need to get pressure on Brees with the front four.

Pressure up the middle is key to stopping Brees. He is a shorter QB who relies on having a pocket to step up into and throw. If you can cause problems up the middle for him it makes it far more difficult to see the field.

Well if thats the case, I'm hoping Melton misses this week.

IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys could see the returns of defensive end Anthony Spencer and linebacker Justin Durant Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, but they could be without defensive tackle Henry Melton and linebacker Rolando McClain.

Melton suffered a hamstring injury in the second half of Sunday's win against the St. Louis Rams. He was able to remain in the game but was spotted on the bench during the game with his leg wrapped tightly. Melton missed the final three preseason games with a groin injury.

McClain was inactive because of a groin injury suffered in a Week 2 win against the Tennessee Titans. He did not practice last week.

Durant has not played the last two games because of a groin injury, but worked out hard before Sunday's game against the Rams and coach Jason Garrett reported late last week Durant was making good progress.

Spencer, who has not played since Week 2 last season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his left knee, practiced twice on a limited basis last week and said after the Rams' game he would push it more this week.

"He's worked very hard the last few weeks just to get back," Garrett said. "We'll see what he's able to do on Wednesday."

Melton unsure if he will practice Wed.

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Henry Melton is unsure if he will practice Wednesday after straining a right hamstring in last week’s win against the St. Louis Rams.

Melton said he was able to do some work before Tuesday’s walkthrough and felt good.

“We’re going to come in here, see how I feel in the morning and if they feel like I can go then I’ll go,” Melton said. “If not then I’ll just wait for Thursday.”

Melton said he suffered the injury early in the game. When the offense was on the field, he kept his leg in a wrap and took it off when it was time for the defense to take the field.

“I didn’t want to take myself out so to keep it warm I just kept wrapping it,” Melton said.

This is the second muscle strain Melton has suffered this season. He missed three preseason games because of a groin strain suffered in training camp. Coming off a torn anterior cruciate ligament after three games last season with the Chicago Bears, Melton said he “might be overcompensating a little bit, but all I can do every week is just work and whatever happens, happens.”

If Melton can’t play Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, the Cowboys might have to scramble at defensive tackle. Rookie Davon Coleman, who started the opener against the San Francisco 49ers, did not play last week because of a calf strain suffered in the weight room.

Terrell McClain could be an option at the three technique. He missed the first game but has played the last two and has been credited with three tackles by the coaches.

Sucks, because interior pressure is how we can slow Brees down, especially with his center out. Brees excels at climbing up into the pocket and making throwing lanes for himself.
