That's my thoughts as well that the sports writer should be addressing but it doesn't offer a solution to restricting ticket sales to opponent fans.
That's my thoughts as well that the sports writer should be addressing but it doesn't offer a solution to restricting ticket sales to opponent fans.
My approach? I don't have an approach since there isn't anything I can do about it, nor do I really care at this point. But it doesn't take a genius to know what the solution to this problem is - build a winner. What then is your approach for changing the situation?
It's not a stupid question. As I said before, the questions about the amount of 49ers fans in the stadium is relevant and holds credibility due to statements that Jones himself has made in recent times. If you are referring to me then rethink you statement. This is about stupid reporter questions not apologizing for anyone.
To me it is a stupid question because it is designed to try to embarrass rather than address the primary problem. If you and others think it can be fixed by fixing the team then that is the approach to take in an interview. Maybe even more relevant to tickets would be a question of is there any plans to restrict sales to opponent fans. Instead the question was how did all this red get in here. We all know how it got in. They bought a ticket from a ticket agent.I don't think its a stupid question. Its just one that can't be fixed right now. Jerry should be held accountable for the crapstain on the field so keep asking these questions.
I think you're missing the point. There is no restricting who can buy tickets. But if there was a better product on the field, the fans would stay and watch and NOT put the tickets up for sale. That's my thoughts as well that the sports writer should be addressing but it doesn't offer a solution to restricting ticket sales to opponent fans.
Exactly.I think you're missing the point. There is no restricting who can buy tickets. But if there was a better product on the field, the fans would stay and watch and NOT put the tickets up for sale.
As for the question posed to Jones, I think it's legitimate. He's made it pretty clear that he's all about the team being relevant. Pretty clear that he's all about making money, too. So the reporter asked the question to find out how he feels about the stadium being filled 50/50 or more with opposing fans. Jerry is obviously lying when he says he didn't notice. How could he not, short of being blind and deaf? But hey... Those fans paid for parking, tickets, and concessions. Who cares what color jersey they were wearing, right Jer?
Your response is puzzling to me. I am not sure what recent time remarks are but I am not sure how that addresses restricting sales to opponents since that is how the "red" was created. It's not a stupid question. As I said before, the questions about the amount of 49ers fans in the stadium is relevant and holds credibility due to statements that Jones himself has made in recent times.
He's made it painfully obvious that being and remaining relevant is a nice consolation prize to not winning. And in his case, I'm not so sure if it's not as important to him.
That would be impossible. How do you suggest that they do that? Hook up each fan to a lie detector and ask them who their favorite team is before allowing them to buy?Maybe even more relevant to tickets would be a question of is there any plans to restrict sales to opponent fans.
Maybe I am missing the point but if I were there to ask Jones a question it would have been what do you plan to do to fix this team not did you see all the 49 er fans?I think you're missing the point. There is no restricting who can buy tickets. But if there was a better product on the field, the fans would stay and watch and NOT put the tickets up for sale.

I thought there were teams that limited the availability of tickets for opposing fans? But what can Jones do about that. In fact what can anyone do about it. The tickets are sold by agents to who ever pays.
Well now that's my point. What can or could be done to keep them out and why is that the pressing question instead of how is the team going to be fixed. That would be impossible. How do you suggest that they do that? Hook up each fan to a lie detector and ask them who their favorite team is before allowing them to buy?
And I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of those tickets were already bought and paid for. They were sold second hand by the Dallas fans who had originally bought them.
And those are the things a reporter should be addressing.I thought there were teams that limited the availability of tickets for opposing fans?
Even so I'm fine with the questions. Reporters and fans are tired of Jones' smugness and the shitty product he upsells at every opportunity.
And the fact he's "disappointed in the performance" of the team is laughable beyond words. Everyone else with half a brain knew this team would be terrible. An old QB who was streaky BEFORE his back was injured...a defense void of any playmakers...and a shitty HC.
I mean..really...who'd be surprised a team with those problems would suck?
Only a GM stuck in his own reality.
How is that the pressing question? The answer is easy. It's NOTHING can be done. There is NO way to not sell tickets to opposing fans.Well now that's my point. What can or could be done to keep them out and why is that the pressing question instead of how is the team going to be fixed.
The media's already spent years asking Jerry why won't he hire a new GM.To me it is a stupid question because it is designed to try to embarrass rather than address the primary problem.
The reason they didn't ask him the latter instead of the former is because of the same answer I'll give to you about the next question.....Maybe I am missing the point but if I were there to ask Jones a question it would have been what do you plan to do to fix this team not did you see all the 49 er fans?
Jones has said quite frequently in the last 2 seasons, most recently in the ESPN piece when talking about Manziel, that being relevant was important. He's been quoted at other times as making some smug remark about how maybe they weren't winning, but we're still the top in ratings!Your response is puzzling to me. I am not sure what recent time remarks are but I am not sure how that addresses restricting sales to opponents since that is how the "red" was created.
How does that fix the team? How is that the pressing question? The answer is easy. It's NOTHING can be done. There is NO way to not sell tickets to opposing fans.
The only way to try and avoid it is to have the local fans use their tickets themselves instead of auctioning them off to the highest bidder. And the only way to do that is to put a product on the field that they would want to attend and see for themselves.
How does that fix the team?
Again how does that address restricting opponent ticket sales? All your responses address the same thing I think should have been asked. Namely how does Jones plan to fix the team. The reason they didn't ask him the latter instead of the former is because of the same answer I'll give to you about the next question.....

So what does that suggest? It suggests to most (myself included) that Jones' attitude is one of "Yea, it would be nice if we could win while drawing ratings, but as long as we're still drawing the attention and remaining relevant, then that's ok with me because we're still raking in the cash."
So again, if you're constantly making these remarks and giving this impression, then it rightfully leaves you open to being questioned about where your priorities lie and about the overwhelming presence of an opposing fanbase in your own stadium.
It doesn't, but he wasn't asked about fixing the team. And the reason why he wasn't asked about fixing the team is because he's already been asked that a ton as Phil pointed out, and he always gives the same answer. How does that fix the team?
You can't "restrict" per se, but as others have already said to you, yesterday would have been prevented if a better product was on the field.Again how does that address restricting opponent ticket sales? All your responses address the same thing I think should have been asked. Namely how does Jones plan to fix the team.
