I've been a bit more specific with my thoughts:

"I just find it funny that I hear often on message boards and in the media that this team or that team are "perennially good drafting teams" and that Dallas sucks at drafting. The facts just don't back the up. At the VERY BEST teams across the league only find players worthy of keeping on the team the year drafted at about a 35% rate. That number drops quickly as you start to look at percentage still on the team 2, 3, 4 years later."

But, how many SBs do the Eagles have? They let Andy Reid go because they couldn't get over the hump and Andy left and proceeded to take KC right into the playoffs.

I'm not comparing team to team like you guys are suggesting. I am comparing media and message board poster's PERCEPTION to reality. I never said the Cowboys were better than the Eagles. Obviously last year, the Eagles won the division and made the playoffs. In the end result was they WERE better.

But three years of the Cowboys playing for a spot in the playoffs in the last game of the season may mean they need a fundamental change to "get of the hump" like the Eagles made. But it doesn't mean that they totally suck as some would have you believe.

The facts just don't back the up. At the VERY BEST teams across the league only find players worthy of keeping on the team the year drafted at about a 35% rate. That number drops quickly as you start to look at percentage still on the team 2, 3, 4 years later.

Google "top nfl team draft classes of all time" and most of the lists are of teams that were pre-salary cap. Since the salary cap and the reduction of the draft to 7 rounds, you be better at judging teams by the UDFAs they find rather than how they draft.

We were as good at drafting (everything but offensive linemen) as anyone during the Parcells era. 2003 and 2005 particularly push our total numbers up for that 2000-2007 window. We've fallen off very badly in terms of draft value in the years since then.

Overall his drafts where OK but it was not great if you look at them objectively.

Parcells did miss on pretty much all of his 2nd rounders but when in the last 7 or 8 years have we found a guy like Canty, Barber, Ratliff, Bradie James or Crayton in the 4th-7th rounds?

In 4 years Parcells did an amazing job finding quality starters like that late in the draft, in twice the time since we've found what, Doug Free, Scandrick and Dwayne Harris?

Let's be real, Parcells Drafts get most of there cache from the play of Ware and Witten.

Ware is a guy he wanted to pass on for Spears so I don't why he should get props for that.

And if we're playing the second guessing game, he wanted Kevin Williams over Newman, and if he had his 3-4 end already, he may have wanted the LB first in 2005.
