Report: Josh Brent Will Be Disciplined by NFL

Brent is seeking reinstatement into the NFL after a year away from the game

Former Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent will face some punishment from the league before he is reinstated, according Ed Werder of ESPN.

Back in January, Brent was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 10 years probation after he was found guilty of intoxication manslaughter, stemming from the December 2012 crash that killed Brent’s best friend and teammate Jerry Brown, Jr. He served time in jail before moving on to a rehab facility. He was released in late July.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones and head coach Jason Garrett have both said the team will welcome Brent back once he’s reinstated, but that could be awhile according to this latest report.

"He's not just going to walk back onto the field," a source told ESPN.

This is a pretty obvious assumption considering Jerry basically said he would sign him once he was eligible to play and then we just never signed him.

Jerry compared Josh Brent's stay in jail to Chad Henning's service in the US Airforce according to sports radio today.

No, he didn't.

Can Jones tell that Brent is a different person emotionally?

“I don’t know that I know that,” Jones said. “I do know, though, that when someone goes through life-changing experiences, that’s what we like to think football does for young men, but he’s had that experience. He deserved that and many people think he deserved more, but the point is he has been through some eye-opening days. We could really benefit from that as a football team.

"In a totally and completely different way – and I’m going to make sure everybody understands that it is a completely different way, and you’ll see what I’m saying – when Chad Hennings joined the Dallas Cowboys and he had actually flown in Desert Storm single-pilot jets, actually had a crash in single-pilot jets. Chad Hennings had developed a discipline and developed a work ethic that made him a man among boys, and he was a major contributor technically [and] physically, but boy, was he a contributor from the standpoint of being an example of work ethic and an appreciation for the job you’ve got.
He's saying they both went through life changing experiences. Jerry's a dipshit and gives plenty of ammunition for people to make fun of him. Why make stuff up?

I think they took his disclaimer as an equivalent to "I don't want to sound racist, but..."

In any case the comparison is pretty stupid. Hennings was a military officer, he learned responsibility and work ethic by doing something that required responsibility and work ethic.

Brent missed time by being irresponsible and nothing about being in jail requires responsibility or work ethic.

What comparison? He's not saying the two things are even remotely similar, only that they both went through things that changed them.

He essentially said he thought that Brent had learned responsibility and work ethic the way Hennings did. Which makes no sense. Hennings was in the military, a situation where things are constantly demanded of you. Brent was in a place where they just want you to sit around and not fight or fuck anyone. I don't think it makes sense to expect him to have learned much except that the food is better on the outside and there are no women in prison.

Four games is better than what we're likely getting from Spencer.

Dear lord the NFL has been dragging their feet with this. Just hand out the damn punishment and let the chips fall as they may.

Also regardless if anyone wants to admit it or not we could really use Josh Brent for our run defense like yesterday.
