The Bills have further pared their QB ranks.

The club has released Thad Lewis, PFT’s Mike Florio reported Tuesday. Lewis was competing for the top reserve role behind starting quarterback EJ Manuel.

The Bills have not been happy with the play of their backup passers. On Monday, they added ex-Bears quarterback Jordan Palmer and released Dennis Dixon.

The 26-year-old Lewis has completed 17-of-33 passes for 168 yards with two interceptions and no TDs in exhibition play. He has been sacked three times.

The departure of Lewis leaves Manuel, Palmer and Jeff Tuel as Buffalo’s quarterbacks. The Bills host the Lions on Thursday evening.

he Steelers have announced their first round of cuts on the way to 75 players.

Nine players have been given their walking papers, leaving the Steelers with six more moves to make before Tuesday afternoon’s deadline.

The list is light on recognizable names and players with NFL experience. The one exemption to the latter is linebacker Vic So’oto, who has played 13 games for the Packers, Raiders and Cardinals after signing with Green Bay as an undrafted free agent in 2011.

Pittsburgh also parted ways with running back Miguel Maysonet, defensive back Jordan Dangerfield, running back Jordan Hall, wide receiver C.J. Goodwin, cornerback Devin Smith, wide receiver Kashif Moore, tight end Matt Waters and cornerback Lew Toler.

The Bengals began whittling down their roster by parting ways with a 2011 draft pick.

Wide receiver Ryan Whalen, a sixth-round pick that year, was one of five players let go by the team as they make their way to a 75-man roster by Tuesday afternoon’s deadline. Whalen played in 17 games for the Bengals over the last three years and made 11 catches, although he didn’t have any receptions in four appearances last season.

Cornerback R.J. Stanford, who played in 41 games for the Dolphins and Panthers over the last three years, was the other player with regular season experience let go by the Bengals. Defensive lineman Larry Black, safety Isaiah Lewis, and kicker Quinn Sharp are the other former members of the squad.

Some of the departed players could be options for the practice squad in Cincinnati this season, although those decisions will have to wait until the weekend cut to 53 players.

Bring him in and see if he can beat out all world Boatright.
Feh. We've already had him and know he doesn't offer much. Don't need to see that again. Not saying Boatright is anything, but if we're going to churn, I'd rather do it without bringing in our old retreads.

We have not seen him in a 4-3 at all. He played 4-3 DE in college.

The Redskins started whittling their roster down to 75 players on Sunday with a series of moves and they’ve continued the process by parting ways with a member of their 2012 draft class.

Guard Adam Gettis, a fifth-round pick, was waived by the team, leaving them with seven of their nine selections from that year still on the roster.

Gettis played 13 games for the team in 2013 after seeing no regular season time during his rookie season. He never made a start for the team and the offseason acquisition of Shawn Lauvao to go with Chris Chester on the starting line left him in a losing battle for a backup spot on the line this time around.

The Redskins also waived cornerback Bryan Shepherd, who signed with the team as an undrafted free agent this spring. With Gettis and Shepherd cast aside, the team has two more moves to make before Tuesday afternoon’s deadline.

We need to be on Westbrooks or Sam...one is going to be released and would be an upgrade instantly.

Falcons cut Angerer. Interested.
They also cut draft pick Yawin Smallwood. More interested in him.

Tampa cut Larry English who lost his battle with Bowers as a backup DE. We should take another look.

Bengals release BenJarvus Green-Ellis

The Law Firm will no longer practice in Cincinnati.

The Bengals announced Friday that they have released veteran running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis. The move has been discussed for some time with speculation growing by leaps and bounds when the team selected Jeremy Hill in May’s draft.

Hill was a workhorse on Thursday night while Green-Ellis sat out much of the preseason with a hip injury that probably sealed his fate in Cincinnati. Green-Ellis spent the last two seasons with the Bengals, running 498 times for 1,850 yards and 13 touchdowns, but the arrivals of Hill and Gio Bernard over the last two seasons made him expendable.

Green-Ellis doesn’t offer much in the passing game, but a team looking for a short yardage banger could probably do worse if Green-Ellis is healthy enough to get back to work. Given his status as a vested veteran, Green-Ellis may have to wait until the second week of the regular season to find new work if teams want to avoid guaranteeing his contract for the entire season.

The Bengals also announced that they have parted ways with linebacker Brandon Joiner, defensive tackle Lakendrick Ross and quarterback Tyler Wilson.

Jamon Meredith goes from Bucs starter to cut

It’s going to be a tough couple of days for a lot of players around the league, although few of the players learning of their release will have dropped out of their team’s plans faster than Jamon Meredith.

Meredith started the first game of the preseason at right guard for the Buccaneers, but was promptly dropped from both the lineup and the competition to start at the position. Moving to tackle didn’t change his fortunes, however, and the Bucs announced Friday that Meredith has been released.

Meredith, who entered the league as a 2009 fifth-round pick of the Packers before being signed by the Bills off Green Bay’s practice squad, started 20 games for the Bucs over the last two seasons but the change in coaches from Greg Schiano to Lovie Smith doesn’t seem to have done him any favors.

His experience could land him a job somewhere else as the other 31 rosters take shape, but, for now, the summer is one of discontent for Meredith

Seahawks to release Terrelle Pryor

Posted by Mike Florio on August 29, 2014, 9:10 PM EDT

The Rams’ patience may have paid off.

Per a league source, the Seahawks will release quarterback Terrelle Pryor. A 2011 third-round supplemental pick of the Raiders, Pryor will hit the waiver wire, since he doesn’t yet have four years of experience.

The Rams could very well be interested in Pryor, who has shown flashes of potential at the position. He was unable, however, to beat out Tarvaris Jackson as the backup to Russell Wilson.

Pryor appeared in 11 games with nine starts last year for the Raiders, who traded him to Seattle in the offseason.

If Pryor clears waivers, he will become a free agent.

Whether by waivers or free agency, the Rams could use a veteran presence behind Shaun Hill. The only other quarterback currently on the active roster, Austin Davis, has no NFL regular-season experience.

This is the right move imo, they let go of the speedster Bush like rb who can't passblock for a solid tough running rb. I didn't get why they drafted Seastrunk in the first place as they have Helu for that role.

Probably looking for a clone of what Gruden had in Cinci.

No teams are trolling the Cowboys cuts.

Few 4-3 linebackers are getting cut league wide
