•I am going to have a hard time releasing Ryan Williams. I understand what Joseph Randle can and cannot do, but Williams is a better player. My eyes tell me that.
When a team mouthpiece that's been talking up Randle since the day he was drafted says this, there may actually be a chance. I hope so.

•When you run down the list of the five most valuable players on this team, if you don't include Dwayne Harris I don't care to see your list.
:lol it's as if he reads the board and knew this discussion has been going on.

Randle strained his oblique. That sounds like a bad injury, maybe we should IR him, you know, just to be sure he is healthy for camp in 2015.

Williams needs to be retained as a RB. Randle has apparently sprung a Leal in the last couple of games.

I didn't get to watch a single snap of the game last night. Anyway I can get just a brief rundown of how we looked? Especially the OL.

Bad.

Is that brief enough?

:lol

So, the OL wasn't able to hold up against that DL? That was my biggest question in this game.

Crap, I just saw that he got sacked 3 times. I guess that answers my question.

Bruce Carter makes plays, impresses Jones
August, 24, 2014

By Jean-Jacques Taylor | ESPNDallas.com

MIAMI -- It's pretty clear the Dallas Cowboys are ready to move on from weakside linebacker Bruce Carter.

The Cowboys were disappointed when Pittsburgh took linebacker Ryan Shazier one pick ahead of them in May's draft, and they want Rolando McClain to earn the starting middle linebacker job because it would allow the coaching staff to move Justin Durant to Carter's position.

But Carter gave the coaching staff a glimpse Saturday of why they drafted him in the second round of the 2011 draft with a nice diving deflection of a pass in the first quarter and an apparent blocked punt that was nullified by a penalty.

"Actually Bruce had some good things happen for him tonight and I particularly like him on that pass coverage," owner Jerry Jones said. "He shows what he can be for you on plays out there. But I thought Bruce really in practice or in a game, probably has looked the best he’s looked."

Carter has the size, speed and athleticism the Cowboys want in a weakside linebacker. Athletically, he fits this scheme perfectly because it allows him to run freely to the ball sine he's always protected from offensive lineman by a defensive tackle. Carter's problem is he still thinks too much on the field, which negates his athleticism.

Whether Carter starts or not, he's going to have a significant role in the Cowboys' nickel defense because of his pass-covering ability. He's entering the last year of his contract and the Cowboys, for now, have no plans to re-sign him.

It's up to Carter to change that.

They didnt have a good game. 3 sacks and it seems like Romo was hit quite a bit. Guess its good to get that back tested now.

I saw most of the first half and the run blocking was also disappointing. Free was singled out by some as "2012 Free all over again" and Leary was responsible all by himself for at least one of the sacks.

I didn't watch Martin or Frederick enough themselves.

Iamtdg Slightly less brief:

I watched the condensed game this morning so I didn't get any replays but the OL looked like they were getting pushed around to me - run game was non-existent. Dez was a beast on offense, and Street and Byrd both had a couple nice catches. There wasn't anyone too impressive on defense outside of Patmon who had a monster game. Even though it was preseason I think he may have already contributed more than Claiborne ever has. Dan Bailey was probably MVP of the game as usual and Harris had a couple nice returns.

Thanks, man. Miami has a really good DL, so I was curious how we would do one we finally met a good opponent in the trenches. Sounds like they got beaten up pretty badly. It's unfortunate. It was the one bright spot to look forward to this year.

Overall not good but there were some individuals who had a few bright spots. I was especially disappointed in the showing by the QB Vaughn. He looked pretty rough.

I don't remember Leary being responsible for one. I do remember Berny giving up a sack and getting a hands to the face penalty on the same play while playing LG. I might have missed Leary's, tho.

I have a pretty distinct memory of seeing someone beat #65 for a sack. At the time Frederick and Martin were double teaming some other DL. #65 is Leary, right? It was an Internet stream but it was definitely #65.

The DL just barreled past him on the play.

I believe smitty is right, I'm pretty sure I saw Leary beaten for a sack as well. I'm not really concerned over the OL, they were very good by the end of last season and I see no reason at all that they shouldn't be better this year, despite what happened through 2 quarters of a preseason game.

They were completely horrible last night though.

And Romo's play was reflective. He took several shots and his passes were either fluttering or into the dirt. We won't do squat if that's what we got.

It was a blitzing LB kind of a hard block because Leary was in space and whiffed when trying to make contact.

The line needs to hold up better, but I'm more concerned with Romo looking very indecisive I was hoping he would be getting the ball out quicker.

The offense just looked out of sync.

True.

And Romo is now looking to go down at the slightest hint of pressure. To me, that takes away his most special quality.

He is not going to pick apart a defense. He is not going to fire off some laser throw.

And yeah, this offense can be thrown out of synch easily.

Nothing has changed, despite all of the Linehan bullshit. Dez, try to run, sack.

Hard to gauge when the game doesn't count.

Any QB with Romo's career passing numbers has picked apart their share of defenses, so to say Romo's only special quality is the ability to buy time in the pocket is misleading. He is aging though, and so we can't count on him to carry the offense like he used to.

Romo's biggest flaw is he doesn't know how to throw the ball away and has never had anyone coach it into him. I think Parcells, Palmer, and Lee might have made progress, but it seems like Garrett doesn't even try.
