Eh. There are always at least 2 losses that could easily be wins, and 2 wins that could easily be losses.

The defense was NFL-historically bad last season, and it has the same coaches and less talent this year.

To overcome that, we will have to rely on an aging QB with a bad back and a penchant for throwing back-breaking 4th quarter interceptions, an offensive coaching philosophy that thinks Romo throwing 50 times a game is a good thing, and a RB who has never made it through an entire season healthy.

We are a missed blitz pickup from a dumpster fire.
You could say that about a lot of teams. Any team that looses their starting QB is in the same position. The games are won and lost on the field not on a prognosticators analysis. Until the team is actually eliminated by whatever situation, they have a chance. I choose to go with that. Some of you guys think the season is already over. When it's actually over then I will recognize it. Meantime I will do what I do every year. Hope for the best. No need to remind me of the past seasons I am painfully aware.

I am glad you brought up the point that games are won and lost on the field. People keep bringing up how close we were in games and if we had run more we'd won more games. The on the field results though show a team that is 8-8 for 3 straight years.

As an aside...I want to see us blow up one way or the other this year...some kind of amazing 11-5 run to the division or just a shit the bed 3-13 season.

kind of like if you've ever seen The Hangover Part 2. At some point in the middle of the movie you say to yourself, wait a minute I've seen this movie before. Yes some of the scenes may be different, but its the same plot, the same jokes, the same ending.

with the Cowboys, they did not change enough of the plot. I know these characters. I know these jokes. I know how this ends.

Lucky for me I never saw the movie.

If they can go 8-8 with that last year, I guess people think it simply cannot be worse.

But yeah, this is pretty much a 5-11 defense. As bad of a defense as I have seen since the Campo days.

Unless we just come out and play flawless offense to outscore everybody, it is going to be bloody.
I'm prepared for every game to be like the Chicago game last year. Offense battles until the coaches decide they've had enough of getting over 5 YPC with the run, go three and out, and the defense collapses for two straight scores causing the offense to go 1-dimensional and face and suffer a 10-21 point loss.

This is almost as bad a defense as I've seen in the salary cap era.

So impressed with your own writing skills you said the same basic thing twice.

Props.

How can anyone say at this point that this year's defense is going to be worse than last season. All anyone has seen so far is a couple of exhibition game with a lot of substitution players and no game plans. To make a complete season's assessment based on that is somewhat knee-jerk.

Really? Hatcher, Ware, and Lee are all gone...this is not a knee jerk reaction, it is a pretty easy projection to make.

Ware and Lee were part timers last season and in addition Ware was in struggle ode for most of the season. Too much emphasis is put on his absence. He might perform great for Denver but he wasn't much more than average last season.

Lee was a part timer who is now going to be replaced by a guy who either did not want to play last year or could not win a starting job for a historically bad defense. As for Ware...he certainly was not the player he was in the past, but his presence alone changed things. So outside of you just saying people are being knee jerk you don't really have anything. The talent is not better by any means, so not sure how that translates to being a better defense this year.

You could argue that average is better than we have right now.

What I have is that not one down has been played in this season and a lot of people have already figured out what will happen. To me that is knee jerk.

I don't think you know what knee jerk means.

I do but I am willing to hear your defination.
Knee jerk is a quick decision/opinion. Now based on the defense being bad last year and with less talent this year, that is more than a year to make that call. So...not a knee jerk reaction.

While you make a point based on last year, the "less talent " is debatable because the players you indicated are the subjects of that premise didn't contribute significantly last season. There are some new players that may contribute as much and there are still unknowns about others. The real situation is there are too many unknowns to make a absolute call either way. I have no idea how the defense will ultimately wash this season and because of that it is unreasonable for me to proclaim the season outcome for this unit with absolute certainty. I think everyone else is in the same position.

Could have just done your normal "wait and see".
