OXNARD, Calif. — The Cowboys had high hopes for Matt Johnson when they drafted the Eastern Washington safety in the fourth round in 2012. They have held onto those hopes, despite the fact that he has never played in a regular-season game.

Seeking an explanation for recurring hamstring injuries, Johnson returned to Dallas to see a back specialist Thursday.

"Matt is going to see a back specialist in Dallas today to see if that relates at all to his hamstring situations, so we feel like he’s making progress, and hopefully we can get him back soon enough where he can show us what he can do in a game," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. "Just turning over all the rocks."

Johnson rarely has practiced in his three seasons, because of back, foot and primarily hamstring injuries. He reinjured his hamstring in a July 29 training camp practice, and an MRI revealed a strain. He had been expected to miss a week but has yet to return to practice.

This guy has got paid. He has had surgeries.

Why does this continue?

This is the same GM who got rid of Jimmy Smith because he had a colostomy bag.

Maybe that's why he's still around...of course this ignores that Jimmy Smith was also a washout in Philly.

:lol

Hamstrings, feet problems, and now back. All that's left is for his dick to fall off.

I'm kinda hoping Johnson gets IR'd again and misses another season while on the Cowboys payroll.

Then I'd like to see him repeat the process in 2015.

That's where the fun begins. Does Dallas actually extend a contract offer to Johnson once his rookie deal expires?

Any sane organization would have kicked this raggedy 4th round pick to the curb months ago. But I wouldn't put it past Dallas to offer him some type of contract in 2016. It's a legitimate concern.

IMO he is on the bubble and if he can't step up he will be gone. I am getting the impression that the purge mode is beginning with the organization. The Ware disposition was the first substantial move in this circumstance.

He is going to be vested soon and eligible for pension. Nice work, Matt.

I think about the end of next year when he is coming off an All Pro season and we can look back at these times and laugh.

Someone needs to send him to a vaginal rejuvenation surgeon. Maybe that will help him.
