Dez Bryant discusses talking trash, Cowboys offense and more

OXNARD, Calif. — Dez Bryant wasn’t going to predict how many touchdowns he’ll have this season, or create a stir when asked if any cornerback in the league could cover him.
But Bryant had no issues talking about how good the Dallas Cowboys’ offense can be this season, or why he enjoys talking trash to opposing teams.
Bryant was in good spirits and even more optimistic about the Cowboys’ offense after a couple joint practices against the Raiders on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“We can be great,” Bryant said. “We can be. It’s all about believing.”
Bryant went on to say his constant trash talk on the field was nothing more than “competitive talk” and that he’s matured enough to know how to handle himself in those situations. He now hopes it’s a way for him and the other receivers to get under opposing teams’ skin.
“A little stuff that I’ve been working on, me getting in their head instead of them getting into mine,” Bryant said. “It’s all about fun and competing.”
Bryant praised the fight shown by several young receivers, as well. The first scrum during Wednesday’s practice featured three separate scuffles between Cowboys receivers and Raiders defensive backs.
Cowboys rookie Devin Street got into it with safety Larry Asante; Dezmon Briscoe with Taiwan Jones; and Laron Byrd with Keith McGill. It was a little scrum that broke up quickly, but Bryant still liked what he saw.
“Here in Dallas, the wide receiver group backs down from no one,” Bryant said. “We don’t accept defeat and we’re going to fight. We want to be the best. In our eyes, we want to work to be the best receiving corps in the league. That’s what we want.”
Other items that Bryant touched on:
On Wednesday’s practice compared to Tuesday: “Today we handled it a little bit better than we did yesterday. I think the intensity level was sky high yesterday, that’s why a lot of fights broke out. But I think today a lot of the veteran guys on both sides of the ball did a great job of handling all the potential fights. We did a good job today.”
On Tony Romo: “He looks good. He came out, his intensity level was damn near higher than mine, which is almost impossible. I’m just playing, but he looked good. He came out slinging the rock, putting them on the money. The offense had a real great day today.”
On if he’s playing Saturday: “Oh, I’m playing. I know I’m going.”
