Split camps could be in Cowboys future

July, 24, 2014

OXNARD, Calif. -- The contract between the Dallas Cowboys and the city of Oxnard, California, is up after this training camp, but owner and general manager Jerry Jones would like to continue operating at least part of camp here in the future.

This is the ninth year the Cowboys have called Oxnard their home for camp.

“It’s better than where it was when we started, and we certainly have the ability to consider it and are considering it and are looking forward not only to this camp, but hopefully we’ll be preparing many Cowboys teams here,” Jones said. “Again we’re in discussions to do that but nothing that we’ve experienced here at Oxnard has been anything but positive and deserves a consideration of continued practicing here.”

The Cowboys and city have a three-year option on the table that could be exercised after this summer.

Cowboys players and coaches like practicing in Oxnard because of the cool temperatures and grass fields. Jones likes coming to California because of the team’s tradition (this is their 35th year training in Southern California) and the attention the team receives nationally.

The Cowboys are scheduled to move into their new practice facility in Frisco, Texas, in 2016 and will hold at least a part of training camp at the indoor football stadium being built to escape the hot temperatures.

“Now the answer to that is to spend some time in both places,” Jones said.

Yeah, because it worked so well before. You know, you have to respect the fact that he has found a way to make a metric assload of money but when does the focus really become about winning titles again? He could have made a bunch of money running a marketing agency as well but marketing is about making money, NFL football should be about winning titles and reaping the benefits those titles bring. Despite all the money he's made, he would be making even more by fielding a quality product because that's easier to market, even easier than marketing a team that is one of the most high profile teams in the country. Pro tip, Jerrah: The brand you bought into won't sell itself forever.

Im expect stupid stuff from this organization so much that from just reading the title of the organization I thought it meant seperate camps for positions. Not what they did with Oxnard/SA. I guess Im relieved a little.
