The NFL isn't like a regular family. You need more than just $ to buy a franchise; you also need their permission. Just because you're worthy of owning a team doesn't mean your son or grandson is. Once the owner croaks, the family should have the right to petition the NFL to keep the club in the family. If the NFL thinks it would be better off in other hands, it goes up for sale.
The NFL makes tons of money off of the Cowboys. Why would they want the ownership to change hands?

Still stupid. Once property is bought, it is yours. And yours to pass down to your heirs.

Were you beating this same drum when the Steeler's ownership has been passed down thru the family? Or any other franchise? Or is this just another Jerry thing.

The polarizing Cowboys will deliver great TV rating$ no matter who owns the team. Change of ownership would be a gift to the long-suffering fans.

You need to stop thinking of the Cowboys like they're a gold watch that you bequeath to your daughter. The NFL is a socialistic collective divorced from the regular business world.

?

The Rooneys are a perfect example of a family that should retain ownership. Not so the Joneses or the Fords in Detroit.

The Cowboys are property. A money making entity. And once bought and paid for, are the property of the owner. So whether or not YOU think they are not fit to own them doesn't mean squat. That team and family make the NFL a shit load of money, so I'd be more than willing to bet they disagree with you.

So the Rooneys are a perfect example in your eyes? Cool. But the Fords aren't? Ok. Could you link me to where you were talking about how they should have to petition the league to retain ownership? Thanks.

So they can just up and take their "property" to a new city without anyone's permission, right? Um, nope. Repeat after me: An NFL team is not a regular piece of property. You shouldn't be able to move wherever you want, and in my perfect world, you shouldn't be able to hand down the team after your death.

How could I? Old man Art Rooney died on August 25, 1988, well before the invention of Internet message boards.

We're talking forced ownership change, not trying to move cities. Wouldn't be trying to move the goalposts here, would you?

Read a little closer. You brought up the Fords as a bad ownership family, I didn't.

Death is ownership change in my book. Your control over that team or its long-term future ends the moment your heart stops beating. Unlike Campbell Soup, you and your heirs don't own it in perpetuity. The fans need to be protected against serial incompetence.

I'm not in the habit of posting on Detroit message boards. On the other hand, I've been very consistent about this whole "heirloom" thing.

Your views of sports franchises is certainly different You seem to think they are public institutions. They are private business organizations that offer their services to the public in the same manner as a grocery store. The fact that they the NFL has banned together as a league and has governance rules doesn't make them any less of an individually owned business franchise. The thought that owners have to restrict themselves beyond the league rules as to ownership is asinine such as not being allowed to convey ownership to heirs.

So, you've made the same argument over JERRY? BFD. Still doesn't change the stupidity of it. Most arguments fans make are made with irrational emotion. No difference here.

In some respects they are public institutions. See: Green Bay. Why can't you just up and move the team? Because of the fans. Why was Cleveland forced to leave their name and team colors behind when they moved to Baltimore. Because of the fans. And how many grocery stores have an antitrust exemption? That'd be none. Making money, which is hard not to do in the NFL, is not a sign of good ownership. Nor is 20 years of mediocrity due to stubbornness and arrogance.

Correct, I've been consistent on this issue for years and years. The Cowboys are owned by Jerry Jones, not The Jones Family. One family should not be allowed to do to Dallas fans what the Fords did to Detroit.

Your use of Green Bay isn't accurate. The public you refer to are stockholders that is common to privately owned companies. The stock isn't traded on any market it is privately held. Further it isn't the fans that make determinations for the team it is the league and stockholders who also are probably fans. I'm sure any stockholder can sell or convey their stock within the agreements it was issued.
I'm not sure where you are going with grocery stores because the anti trust provisions have nothing to do with whether owners can pass their holdings to an heir. Finally the mediocrity you reference is simply emotion and isn't part of the issue.

The entire perverted family laughs at your suggestion.

Maybe it's the red hair or the fat nose, I don't know.....but every time I see that little shit in the background, it makes me mad.

Then earn some money and buy the team...
