What does it say to you that the players got together themselves and ran them the day before the flight out to Oxnard?

It tells me that they're committed to getting better and are tired of losing. The problem is I don't think they have the talent.

Did they say the number of players that showed up? I'm interested in knowing if everyone showed.

Also, were coaches present? I'd hate to see players who are out of shape and fail the conditioning test get a free pass.

I saw 75 and no, there were no coaches present.

If someone else were head coach, you would hear people saying Camp Cupcake.

There is just so much unknown with Garrett.

The first being, "How is he still an NFL head coach?"

Jerry thought he was outsmarting the league by making him the highest paid OC to keep him in the wings.

I used to think that Garrett might succeed in a stable organization like Baltimore or Atlanta, but these last few years have proved that he's simply not equipped to handle or adjust to the NFL game.

He simply needed more conditioning before hitting the bigtime.

Coaches couldn't be present, per the collective bargaining agreement. Only so many organized meeting allowed each off season.

But from what I understand, and I might be wrong, trainers and medical staff could be there for stretching, taping, treatment, etc... So I doubt players were given a free pass or were allowed to half ass it through the test.

I'm going with NoDak. I say the cameras were rolling on the practice field and the coaches were watching from inside a meeting room within Valley Ranch. And now they basically gain a day at training camp.

Maybe I am missing something. Why would they not do a conditioning test?

Strange.

They know there's gonna be x number of hamstrings pulled anyway, so what's the use?

It is strange. I thought they were just getting together to run the test as a self check among the players. I didn't think the player ran test would replace the one ran by coaches.

I'm assuming everyone passed; I haven't seen anything to the contrary.

They would have still done it the first day of camp. Witten and some others called the team together to do it early, to get it out of the way. There were a few people that weren't able to make it back to VR to take it, so they will still have to take it at TC.

I saw they reported every one that took it passed, but there was still about 15 people that needed to take it. They didn't give names to who hasn't taken it yet.

Isn't it scary how you can't point to one thing that he's improved upon since day 1.

Game management? Nope.

Balance the playcalling? Nope.

Player development? Nope.

Weekly game plans? Nope.

The guy has been mostly stagnant as a coach and has actually regressed in a few areas.

He's been just as bad as Campo...possibly even worse, as we knew he was a smart guy and hoped for great things.

I remember seeing a clip of him at training camp when Wade was still here and he showed a little fire. Turns out that's all he had, just a little fire.

He's a book smart guy who thinks he can learn how to be a coach by listening to other good coaches. That's not what cuts it. You have to live it, make mistakes and learn from them. He makes a mistake and goes totally in the opposite direction, like he's afraid of failure.

Actually no they weren't. Taken from this article: http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/dallas-cowboys/headlines/20140722-was-jason-garrett-testing-cowboys-commitment-by-canceling-sprints-if-so-75-passed-with-flying-colors.ece

"The series of 20 sprints that players are customarily required to complete during their first full day of training camp has been canceled. Head coach Jason Garrett informed the team of his decision before it left for Oxnard."

According to Garrett he was concerned that the test may have caused some injuries last year with players pushing themselves too hard to pass it. So the players took it upon themselves instead to get everyone to do the test prior to camp. I think the intention of the players was correct but at the same time it comes off as a little defiant.
