Not defending the situation or anything but I'd like to explain what happened. She is known for being extremely aggressive with anyone and everyone at the rec center. Basically has been known to shove guys down, foul hard, talk crap and generally play overly aggressive against men. She swung at him and connected and he sort of slightly jabbed her in the jaw immediately regretting it. Obviously he was wrong and it is terrible to do that.

Now, framing the "crime" properly is in order. Tech has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to violence against women. That is understandable and a good rule IMO. That is why he was initially kicked off the team, out of school and sent away without a dollar in his pocket and nowhere to go. The question to me is if this is the same as violence against women in the traditional sense. I'd say it is clearly a punishable offense but kicked off the team permanently is a little harsh. He didn't attack a women or beat up his girlfriend. I am in favor of 4 weeks - 1 year suspension with an opportunity to work his way back.

We've had other football players swing at guys at the rec and get minor suspensions for that. A few years ago Mackey knocked a guy cold at the rec and received a one game suspension for it.
My criticism is mostly towards the small suspension he got after returning. Losing 4 years of eligibility all the way down to 3 (most likely meaningless) games is huge. I'd say a minimum of 6 was in order.

My impression was that they were trying to be swift with the punishment and didn't really think it through.

What was unusual was that the grand jury wrote a letter to the tech administration asking for him to be cleared. They made it clear that they felt that he should be reinstated. Why does a grand jury do that? Part of it was that she perjured herself more than once before he was forced to tell the truth by being caught in her owe lies. When Tech did their initial investigation she grossly exaggerated the story and had a witness who lied as well. I think this is part of the reason that he was initially completely kicked out if the program. After the due process things came out that made it less horrible of a story. It seems more like he got into a minor scrape with a dike instead of women abuse going on.

I agree though, Tech could have looked less stupid had it just waited a few weeks to decide on the punishment.

Excuse me while I drop this grenade.....

Kent Hance?
He is now in an emeritus status, so it would be on Dr. Nellis and Duncan, the new guy. Regrettably, the Hance arguing era is essentially over.

New question...

You have a female with history of violence with one act caught on tape as the instigator and history of perjury, both to school admin and in a court of law.

Why is she still around?

My guess is overreaching trying to save face. They didn't want tolerance for a women beater on their hands. Simply a guess.

Now the public stance from her is saying all the right things.

There are girls that look similar in stature to me, but if they hit me they aren't hurting me like I would them if we both swing. To say otherwise is ridiculous.
She's not just a big girl, she's a division 1 athlete with muscle mass on the same level as most men with a history of getting physical with men. Saying she's a dainty flower that needs extra special protection is ridiculous.

Girl athletes don't hit the weight room like guys do and she's just 5'9. It's not like she's some Brittney Griner like monster. Give me a break.

I think I started one at one point. Can't remember if it was on this version or not.

It's a couple of years off but today they announced a trio of games that will all be played in Texas on Sept 3, 2016.

USC Trojans vs. Alabama (at Cowboys Stadium)
UCLA vs. Texas A&M
Notre Dame vs. Texas
I'm definitely gonna go to the Texas/ND game.

That's gonna be great.

SMU head coach June Jones isn’t known as a very outspoken guy. But last week, Jones made waves with his comments on a Florida radio station.

In case you missed it, Jones said the ‘have-nots’ of FBS college football — teams in the American, Mountain West, Conference USA, MAC and Sun Belt — should play their fall schedules in the spring.

Here is the highlight of the interview:

“I’ll go ahead and say it right now,” Jones said in an interview with WDEA-AM. “I think the have-nots should go ahead and move to the spring just like the USFL did. I think that there’s an opportunity to do a complete other side of that division, and I think that if we don’t think that way as a group of have-nots, we’re going to get left behind.

“I can see in five-to-seven years, possibly, the public would demand to have the two leagues play, just like I think the USFL had in mind, originally, of the winner of the USFL playing the winner of the National Football League.”

Jones didn’t stop there. He even went as far as to say that if his radical idea isn’t considered, “Group of Five” schools will simply ‘start dropping football.’

Now, “Group of Five” commissioners, who vehemently disagree with Jones’ concept, are firing back.

“We have no interest in doing that and have no plans to discuss or look into it,” American Athletic commissioner Mike Aresco told ESPN.com. “Our position is clear. We are an integral part of the fabric of FBS college football.

“Our conference is and will be extremely competitive and our goal is to play at the highest level, compete for playoff and host bowl spots and challenge the Power Five. We want to be in the power conference conversation and, sooner than later, be regarded as the sixth power conference.”

Jon Steinbrecher of the MAC also chimed in with his opinion.

“I have not reviewed this concept with our membership, but I cannot imagine we would support such a concept,” he said. “We look forward to competing in the fall.”

In the new College Football Playoff system, the highest-rated champion from “Group of Five” conferences will earn a College Football Playoff bowl berth. That team will also be considered for the new four-team playoff.

Crazy coincidence of the day.

So yesterday evening we go over to the house of my wife’s cousin. This was my first time meeting them.

I get there and they’re nice, decent people. So after a while me and her cousin’s son-in-law are chit-chatting about football. He’s a lifelong Floridian, born and raised in Miami. So he’s a Cane fan and Dolphin fan. No surprise there.

Well we start talking about college football and he mentions that his cousin just left the state to play football out in Texas. Texas Tech to be exact. So he’s telling me about how good his cousin is and that he plays DB and will wear #1 this year. He never gave me his name he was just talking the dude up.

Me being a follower of the Big XII, I pull out my phone and Google this all-star DB who the Sooners will have to contend with and guess who this mystery player is…..Nigel Bethel. The notorious face puncher.

So I start grinning ear to ear while reading this newfound information and the son-in-law asks me what’s so funny. I replied “nothing, just read something funny on Facebook”. If I’d have known the dude a little better I would have gave him grief about his cousin but since this was our first meeting I had to keep my comments to myself.

That is, indeed, a cool story, bro. Had he not heard about what happened? I'm just curious how he could not. Maybe he knew, but was too embarrassed to bring it up?

@1bigfan, it's funny you bring that up, Fisher is going on a huge rant on Twitter right now about this subject. He is definitely anti-Bethel.
