As close as we came to winning in 94, there was definitely a threat of that happening. We had some key injuries that year, the ones listed plus Kevin Smith, some horrid early turnovers that lead to a big deficit, and we still nearly pulled it out.

I'll hand it to Switzer that he was smart enough to coast. A guy like Chan Gailey would have tried to change everything and force everyone to fit his "System"

Aikman was pretty aloof for the most part. I have seen him in dozens of games where he would retreat to an empty spot on the sidelines and stay there until it was time to go back in the game. He wasn't a teammate mixer.

The best thing about that was that Aikman didn't fight for top dog spot with Irvin, he didn't try to pressure the offensive coaches to feature the pass more, he just showed up and did his job.

I effing hated Steve Young with a passion and kind of still do with his insolent hair.

But I can't sit here and say, yup, Troy was better hands down.

Both with different kind of players. Aikman was the most accurate passer I have ever seen. He also had outstanding chemistry with Irvin/Novacek and ran Turner's offense magnificently. Young could create plays and honestly could take over games.

Some might disagree, but we beat those 49er teams back then because we had the better team, not the better QB.

I'd still prefer Aikman because he was part of that team. All in all, it's dumb to compare individuals like there is a right answer.

It is like thinking Staubach would have had the same success winning SBs in Pittsburgh as Bradshaw did. Different QBs asked to do different things within the systems they were in.

I think both players were products of the great teams they were on. Aikman needed a run-first offense and great blocking because of his lead feet. Young needed a West Coast Offense and Jerry Rice turning 5 yard passes into long TDs because his skill set was more feet than arm.

I know it won't happen but the next time Aikman goes into one of his holier than thou rants about how Player X shouldn't yell at his teammates, I'd love to see FOX throw up a clip of him screaming like a mad man at his teammates along the sideline.

I kind of agree with Boberts.

To me Aikman was the ultimate bus driver QB. The team was set up where he wasn't required to do too much.

Just keep the train moving along the tracks.

I'm not trying to slam the guy but that's just how I saw him. He was the 90's version of Phil Simms, IMO.

Exactly. Steve Young dinked and dunked his way in the WC offense and had the greatest WR ever to play the game at his disposable. He was a good QB.

But I'll take Aikman, who could make every throw and was a master in the timing offense Norv Turner used. 3 SB's to 1 makes it pretty easy.
