Felix Jones has “gut feeling” he’ll play in 2014

Posted by Josh Alper on July 1, 2014, 8:03 AM EDT

Running back Felix Jones didn’t play a big role for the Steelers last year, running for 184 yards on 48 carries, and that seemed to confirm that the former first-round pick’s once-bright career prospect were getting dimmer and dimmer with every passing day.

The crickets that have accompanied his arrival to the free agent market this year aren’t doing much to change the outlook. Jones isn’t ready to start looking for another line of work, though. He’s working out and believes that he still has “some gas in my motor” that he believes he’ll be putting to use for a team in the near future.

“I know something is going to happen, I have a gut feeling,” Jones said, via the Tulsa World. “I just have to stay prepared for it.”

It seems clear at this point in the offseason that no team has found a burning need to add Jones to their roster, which may mean that he’ll be waiting for injury or other catastrophe to strike in order to get another chance at making a roster.

Felix 'tearing it up' as a rookie in TC is why I'll never get excited about camp reports again.

He was one of the most explosive players in the league until our training staff got a hold of him.

The first half of his first season he was ripping off long TDs and looked amazing. Then Juraszek told him that getting fat would make him less injury prone and he no longer had any acceleration.

Felix was a part time college player and was a terrible first round pick in the first place. No one ruined Felix, he just wasn't that good of a player. No one should draft a part time college player highly in the draft. It's just silly.

Not only that he thought like a part timer.

He was always Robin to McFadden's Batman at Arkansas.

He just was not cut out to be the guy, that's all there is to it. He was fast, but so were a lot of other guys and frankly he had next to no balance as anything near his shoelaces could trip him up.

I didn't like the pick either because he was more of a nebulous "weapon" than a starting RB and I hate those. Garrett was queer for all of the "wrinkles" that he could imagine with Felix. I lump him in with the second round TEs as gimmicks we picked for the offense while we let starting positions decay.

And then he proceeded to slowly disappear from sight. Someone thought he could be a starter in this league.

What is absolutely sad is this list of RB's drafted in the 1st-3rd rounds of the 2008 draft

1- Darren McFadden
13- Jonathon Stewart
22- Felix Jones
23- Rashard Mendenhall
24- Chris Johnson

44- Matt Forte
55- Ray Rice
64- Kevin Smith

73- Jamaal Charles
89- Steve Slaton

Doesn't this make you want to strangle our team's management? They didn't want competition because they just paid Marion Barber a huge contract, so they grabbed a "complementary" back-- in the first round!

Oh, it wasn't slowly. He disappeared almost overnight.

That draft class looks worse and worse.

Ray Rice was my favorite out of that group. I never did understand the Mendenhall fans around here. He was a garbage back that wouldn't have been average if it weren't for Pitt's run blocking and commitment to feeding him carries.
