Dallas Morning News columnist Rick Gosselin and Cowboys beat writer Brandon George joined Fox Sports Southwest's Erin Hartigan for SportsDay OnAir on Monday. Here are some highlights:

On Gavin Escobar's role:

Gosselin: "He fancies himself as a receiver. They drafted him as a receiver. They view him as a receiver, but somebody at tight end has to block. He put a few pounds on, but adding five or 10 pounds doesn't make you a blocker. Blocking comes from the heart. Right now, there are a lot of guys who fancy themselves as receivers and not blockers. That's one of the problems with the running game."

George: "In college, that's what he was. He was split out wide as a receiver. I don't think he will ever be a good blocker. If you are around Gavin Escobar, he is not a physical or aggressive person. I don't think blocking is in his DNA. I think he will be a receiver. When you look at him, you put him out wide and let him beat the corner. Let him play one-on-one. That's what his skill set is. I don't think you can camouflage it at this point. You know he cant block, put him out wide, and throw him the football."

On Demarco Murray's comments:

George: "Ever since Demarco has been here, he has always said the right things. If he hasn't said the right things, he just doesn't talk. He's a smart guy in that sense. He's really been that way since he was at Oklahoma. He keeps to himself. When he talks, he puts the team first. He is smart enough to see this team is led by Witten and Romo. You need to answer the question that way. I thought it was a good move by him."

Gosselin: "Give him a chance to be a difference maker. Give him the ball. The whole problem with this team is that they don't run the ball. Demarco Murray had the best average of any starting halfback in the league last year at 5.2 a carry, but he only ranked 21st in carries. Give him a chance to help Witten and Romo win a ring. That's the problem. He wants to be seen."

George: "Anytime he has had over 20 carries, they are undefeated. They need to give him the ball more if they are going to win a title."

Everybody but our retarded coach and QB can see that and I really dont expect it to change.

I'm certainly not trying to defend Garrett and Romo, but I always thought that was a retarded stat.

"The Cowboys are a 1,000,000 and 1 when Emmitt gets 20 carries or more."

Well, no shit. Probably because they have a lead and are trying to protect it. If they are behind, they'll be throwing more.*

*This obvious bit of common sense does not include our current coach and QB.

I think I just selected the wrong sentence. Should have been the one dealing with the YPC and the fact that we didnt run more. That stat will obviously not continue and the same with the high YPC. Just makes me mad when even I can see the problems and its such a basic concept that is getting ignored.

Agreed.

If it's working well, let's stop using it.

Exactly. Like the Cowboys are undefeated when they score more than the opposing team.

It usually takes a total team victory to get a running back 20+ carries, and it's even harder now that so few backs can actually handle that kind of punishment.

Leads the league in YPC. In the bottom 1/3rd in carries.

Still don't know why we used a 2nd round pick last year on a one dimensional TE...or any TE.

I'd double prop you for this comment if I could. Escobar's lack of blocking is a pretty big issue, and one that would have easy to see even when we drafted him.

Jerry took one look at him and thought he was definitely a kid who he could tech to block.

It has to be the WR dimension. Cowboys see something a million other trained professionals can't. Eye-roll x a billion

This team's management needs to cave in its own collective skull so we can have an actual chance.
