IRVING – Lance Dunbar says despite having left knee surgery in December he’s been a full participant since voluntary workouts began at Valley Ranch in April.

The Dallas Cowboys backup running back had his season ended last Thanksgiving when he suffered the posterior lateral corner injury.

“I’ve been working hard this off-season trying to get my knee back right,” Dunbar said. “I was able to do that and I’m feeling pretty good.

“I’ve been doing everything fine. No problems. I wouldn’t be out there [during OTAs] if I was still hurting.”

Dunbar, 24, was having a career day during that 31-24 November victory over the Oakland Raiders. He carried 12 times for 82 yards. During his two seasons with the Cowboys, Dunbar has 225 yards on 51 carries and 92 yards on 13 receptions.

Many believe that the 5-8, 188-pound back fits well into new offensive coordinator Scott Linehan’s system. While Dunbar says he’s not sure how he’ll be used by Linehan, he said he was excited watching how Linehan got his backs the ball in space while with Detroit.

Reggie Bush and Joique Bell combined to catch 107 passes last season for the Lions. Dunbar caught seven passes for 59 yards in nine games in 2013.

“I’m going to try to do my best, do whatever they want me to do,” Dunbar said. “Catching the ball, running the ball, I’ll do whatever.”

The former North Texas standout’s best attribute is probably his speed. He assured reporters that his surgery did nothing to slow him down.

“I’ve been working hard, trying to get it back right,” Dunbar said. “I might be faster, I’m not sure, but I know I’m stronger.”

I look at him and only see "self-induced lower leg injury".

It's like Dallas is recruiting from hospitals.
