BTB: Which Small-School Prospects Will The Cowboys Draft This Year?

I would consider Ware a small school player. Of course he was a well known small school player.
I didn't do a good job of articulating my point about the small schools later in the draft.

If a small school guy goes in the first, they are pretty damn good and it really doesn't matter.

I just don't advocate spending 3-4-5th round picks on project players. You should be picking up depth and the backbone of your roster in those rounds...not gambling on some small fry to hit it big.

I agree. It isn't really that difficult. When you look at a guy like Larry Allen he was a physical freak on and off the field before we drafted him. It shouldn't take rocket science to pick a guy like that out. Same with Ware. The problem is when we start thinking we are smarter then everyone else who doesn't rate a small school guy highly.

I'd just draw the line at small school DB's at this point. We are fine with small school D-lineman in recent history. But those are easy. Guy that are bigger, faster, stronger on the lines translate. On the other hand, small school DBs are much harder to decipher.

Oddly, the last decent DB to come out of a small school was Brandon Carr (Grand Valley State).
