For Those that Like to Talk About the Salary Cap Albatrosses

:lol

Just because the cap goes up doesn't give Jones a free pass to be a fucktard and sign 32 year old underperforming players to huge extensions.

As of yesterday.

So, I wonder if Jerry likes where he is or if he wishes he was where the better teams in the NFL are at...right in the middle.

Give it a month. Seattle is going to have to extend several players. They are going to move dramatically on that list.

But that doesn't speak to the fact that the media has painted the Cowboys into "salary cap hell" and nothing is further from the truth.

Instead of bringing up tangential points, why don't you speak DIRECTLY to that point that I posed?

One of my personal favorites.

Wait until those teams that are winning are like us, that'll show 'em.

You had a point?

Oh, that little thing that the "cap hell thing is a farce".

Well, we already know that. We know Stephen and his genius self can keep Dallas living off a credit card forever.

It still does not speak to the simple issues at hand.

Each and every year, the Cowboys will be tight to the cap.

Each and every year, they will kick the can down the road.

And invariably, we will also pay age for whatever reason.

That will limit how much they can spend in free agency, and when, to overcome draft mistakes.

If Dallas drafted better, nobody would give two craps about the salary cap.

I equate the Cowboys salary cap management to a person living paycheck to paycheck. They can move money around year to year and get cap compliant (usually without too much effort), but they aren't saving (cap rollover) or giving themselves any savings (free agent flexibility)

Dallas restructured almost every contract available to them to restructure last year. And, for what? To franchise Spencer and bring in Durant and Will Allen?

Meanwhile, a team like Seattle, who has cap flexibility was able to bring in some key contributors at what were really bargain deals (Avril, Bennett)

What Dallas is doing allows them to, more or less, keep this core together, but this is an 8-8 core. So what is that really buying you? I understand it if you are a NE that is a perennial contender and have a big dollar contract for your franchise QB (who still have like $9 million in cap space). I don't understand it for an 8-8 team.

If this approach is so revolutionary and effective, why aren't other teams doing it?

Depending upon what happens with Ware (or potential restructures of Carr and Witten), they might make a little space for either free agency or a Dez extension, but not much else. Meanwhile, playoff teams are sitting with excess cap space up front without restructures. Who has the advantage for adding key pieces and improving their team?

I don't think Dallas is in cap hell by any means, but they are cap constrained. I think they'll be able to keep Dez and Tyron and probably get cap healthy in 2016/2017 with new money and moving on from Romo.

So? They have a Super Bowl to show for it and used their cap space wisely to improve their team because....wait for it.....they had cap flexibility.

I don't think I'd care at all about the restructure game if this team was on the brink. Go for it when you have that window.

I do think people seem to go to extremes on this subject. Concern about the Cowboys cap management doesn't mean cap hell. However, it doesn't mean Dallas is in a position to "do whatever they want" either.

What kills me is they (Jerry) talks about how they are so free-spending as if that's a plus when you're 8-8 three years in a row. But, then you have pundits saying that every other team is in the same shape we are in. GTFO of here with that nonsense. We are in cap hell compared to many other teams when you think about results versus spending.

That is another personal favorite of mine.

We can "do whatever we want".

Actually, if it were a case where Jones could do what he wanted, there would be a parade of high priced FAs.

What is so pathetic and sad is he is perhaps one of the few owners who can put real money where his mouth is in terms of contracts.

He has the cash.

And he spends it, like a pathetic moron.

We should be proud of that?

Seattle is in the best situation that the NFL will allow, just like us after SB 28 and the Patriots after 2001.

Where we failed and weren't SB contenders by 1997, the Patriots fared much better and are still SB contenders.

Seattle has the challenge of how and who to keep together to remain a SB team.

The Cowboys don't have to fire sale, but have to strain to hold onto an 8-8 nucleus. We can keep Ware, but lose Hatcher. Yay? This is supposed to help us get to the SB?
